Why Choose an Engineering Technician Apprenticeship with Wienerberger?
Wienerberger pride ourselves on our friendly and inclusive culture and understand the importance of supporting our employees growth and development. We value our people – they are at the heart of everything we do and are instrumental to our continued success. We recognise the increasing skills gap in the engineering sector and are committed to developing the best engineers and leaders of the future. We partner with some fantastic training providers and offer an exciting, world class programme which encompasses training and development within dedicated regional and national training centres, alongside practical application and projects.
You will be based from our Sandtoft site in Doncaster, with time spent at our Centre of Excellent for training.
Our new Centre of Excellence based at our Sandtoft site in Doncaster offers a space where our apprentices can complete essential training exercises in a workshop environment, with classrooms, a conference space and welfare facilities. Wienerberger has a wide range of mechanical, electrical, and robotic equipment and we will develop you to install and maintain these to the highest standard. To support the wider business and strengthen our future, the centre will also be available to our existing workforce to enable them to continually improve and grow.
We are one of the first companies in the UK to have gained the Engineering Employer Apprenticeships Kitemark – a new accreditation created in partnership from Next Gen Makers and MAKE UK which has been awarded to employers who go above and beyond when delivering apprenticeships in a safe and welcoming way.
What does the Apprenticeship look like?
Year 1 – you will be based at our partnership training provider on a full-time basis, where you will learn the basics of engineering via practical and theoretical training to achieve a Level 2 qualification. You will go on to complete a Level 3 BTEC qualification which covers the same subjects in greater depth.
Years 2 – 4 – you will spend up to 50% of your time (Monday to Friday) away from home as you undertake a mixture of residential learning at our national training centres, meet and train with key equipment and robotics suppliers, and undertake practical learning across all of our UK manufacturing plants. This multi-site exposure will support you in understanding the equipment you will be responsible for, build key relationships and learn from your colleagues. Wienerberger will cover the cost of your accommodation and travel.
In addition to your attaining your apprenticeship, you will also gain a number of vocational and academic qualifications which will be fully funded. These include:
- Level 2 Diploma in Engineering
- Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering
- Certified 3-Day First Aid

When you have completed your Apprenticeship, you will be eligible to take on a permanent role with us.
