The Role
An opportunity has arisen for a two Engineering Apprentices (L3) to join VolkerRail Plant.
Key Accountabilities
The key duties of this role will be to:
- Assist with maintenance and operational activities working under the direction of fully qualified and competent staff members.
- Develop the skills to maintain, repair, modify, and diagnose faults on, electrical, electronic hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems associated with mobile railway plant.
- Observe, learn and develop understanding of a wide range of engineering skills and processes under the instruction of skilled technical staff.
- Demonstrate proficiency in the skills and processes learned as training progresses by working with increasing independence or with greater contribution to a team.
- Undertake generic housekeeping work as directed.
- Undertake work required to complete an appropriate recognised engineering apprenticeship qualification.
- Undertake all training deemed necessary by line manager
- Develop an understanding of non-engineering or technical aspects of the business i.e. commercial or HSQE by assisting relevant departments with a limited number of activities.
- Complete all tests, presentations, and other required assessments and evaluations.
- Undertake work both in the depot and other sites when required.
- Maintain a log of personal work-based learning
- Build professional relationships with colleagues and clients.
- Perform any other duties appropriate to the grade and role of the post holder.
Skills & Experience
You will be highly motivated, disciplined and display a real enthusiasm for the role.
The candidate will also ideally have the following experience/skill set:
- Have a minimum (or on target for) grade 9-4 (A*- C) in GCSE’s Maths, English and Science.
- Have an interest in engineering and the railway industry.
- Be motivated and enthusiastic to attend college & achieve the necessary qualifications.
- A technical and inquisitive mind with a methodical approach to tasks.
- Have accuracy and attention to detail and be able to work to high quality standards.
- Have good communication skills – verbal and written.
- Have a high regard for safety, quality, compliance, systems and procedures.
