Engineer – Electrification (Electrified Driveline) – Leyland
Overview
UTAC provides vehicle test, validation and engineering services to customers in the automotive, transport, tyre, petrochemical, defence and security industries. It is independent and impartial in everything it does.

Job Description
Reporting to – Propulsion Manager
Core focus will be on Driveline and EDU testing. The nature of the project work undertaken is varied, ranging from durability to efficiency mapping and performance testing, on both electrified and conventional driveline products, in product configurations that include single speed high speed e-machines, gearboxes, transaxles, conventional axles and electric-drive-unit assemblies. Testing is carried out on UTACs flexible driveline test rigs configured as required (1E, 2E or 3E) as demanded by the product architecture. Testing is carried out in accordance with established as well as bespoke drive cycles for a customer base that includes both premium OEMs and Tier-1s from the automotive, motorsport and commercial vehicle markets.
Responsible for all aspects of testing and project delivery from an engineering perspective, including liaising with the customer and working with the Technicians through the life of the project. Project tasks include the use of CAD for Fixture design, equipment installation, test bed control system setup, test execution, post processing and validating test results, compiling data packs and test reports.

Role & Responsibilities
Health, Safety, Environment & Security:
- Ensure appropriate PPE is being used at all times in designated areas
- Review job specific risk assessments
- Ensure H&S procedures & processes are appropriate and being applied
- Ensure appropriate security measures are in place and being used in the labs
- Create and maintain risk assessment for the tests in the area of responsibility
- Undertake analysis of results, including statements of conformity or opinions and interpretations
- To report, review and provide authorisation of results
Customer service:
- Liaise with the customer to ensure the project is delivered on time and to their expectations
- Liaise with customer engineers to obtain feedback relating to performance improvements
- Develop improved systems of work, data handling and manipulation
- Deliver test reports accurately (RFT) and on time (OTD)
- Report regularly to customers as required
Technical excellence:
- Work with other Engineers and Senior Engineers to design test and timing plans
- Competently and efficiently deliver tests to a high professional standard
- Liaise with Technicians providing appropriate detail to ensure efficient testing
- Collate test results from various logging equipment and validate for approval
- Be conversant with appropriate testing regulations
- Identify improvements and manage change appropriately
Compliance:
- Ensure project documentation is up to date and consistent
- Ensure equipment calibration is valid and report any issues
- Adhere to company policies and procedures
- Comply with ISO 9001, 14001, 17025, 22301, 27001, 45001 procedures where appropriate
Financial performance:
- Ensure projects are delivered on time using the agreed level of resources
- Maintain up to date information on job status, expected invoicing and completion date

Person Specification
Qualifications
- Educated to degree level or equivalent experience in relevant engineering discipline (Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronic)
Experience
- Knowledge of driveline mechanical fundamentals
- Knowledge of electric vehicle drive system fundamentals
- Driveline testing
- Test bed control system(s)
- CAN communications
- CAD system(s)
- High Voltage awareness (preferred)
- Instrumentation and data acquisition (preferred)
- Knowledge of sensor types and applications (preferred)
- Data processing (preferred)
- Technical report writing

- Full UK driving licence & own transport (UTAC Leyland is not easily assessable via public transport).
- Flexibility to travel as and when required
