Job description
We have an exciting opportunity for someone interested in building a career in facilities maintenance. We are currently seeking a Property Maintenance Apprentice to join our existing building fabric team. You'll be learning some of the typical trades found in the construction industry, but your focus will be on how those skills are used within existing buildings.
About the role:
Facilities maintenance is all about keeping existing buildings running and in good repair rather than building something from scratch. So you'll be involved in the general maintenance of the building's structure and infrastructure as well as learning about installing new facilities and services whilst keeping the client's business operational. No two days are the same as we work reactively to solve our customer's problems with their buildings. Whether that's a leaking pipe, a hole in the ceiling, repairing a door handle, or replacing flooring. The list is endless, but you'll also get involved in some of our project work which can include a variety of different building-related activities. You'll be enrolled on a Level 2 Property Maintenance Apprenticeship lasting 24 months with a view to converting to a permanent contract upon completion.
Some of your main duties as our Apprentice Building Fabric Engineer will include:
- Working alongside other engineers to deliver scheduled works for our customers
- Assisting other engineers with their day-to-day workload
- Learning how to liaise with customers about work required, completed, and next steps
- Learning how to complete job cards and record completed works
- Learning how to accurately quote for remedial works and build material lists
- Liaising with other engineers and the operational teams
What we're looking for in our ideal Apprentice Building Fabric Engineer:
- Maths and English at GCSE grade C/4 or equivalent
- IT skills
- Good communicator
- Ability to write up accurate job notes
- Customer service ethos and a desire to deliver a first-class service
- Excellent attention to detail
- Excellent attendance and timekeeping
- Quality focused
- Proactive approach to problem-solving
- Adaptable
- Committed to learning
- Willing to take instruction and learn from others
- Practical ability
Applicants need to be aged 18+ due to the hours of work that may sometimes be required (e.g. night shifts, overtime hours) and should have a full driving licence and access to their own transport.
This is a field-based position and will require daily travel to a range of customer sites along with attendance at college. All engineers are subject to an enhanced DBS check due to working in environments with vulnerable adults or young people
Successful applicants will need to pass the qualifying criteria set by the college to be accepted onto the apprenticeship
Our "awesome" stuff:
- Industry-leading salary and overtime at enhanced rates
- 29 days holiday, plus a day off for your work anniversary!
- 1 x paid volunteering day per year
- Cycle to Work Scheme
- Holiday buy and sell
- Enhanced maternity, paternity, and adoption pay
- Company van and fuel card (once the apprenticeship is completed)
- Paid travel time over and above the first and last half hour of the day
- We’ll provide a tablet as standard, as well as a “bring your own device” policy so we'll contribute to the cost of your using your personal mobile phone
- Extensive discounts platform
- A range of medical and well-being benefits including Simply Health Cash Plan after probation
- We're passionate about supporting each other, so we'll also provide you with any training and development you need to do your job well
