As a Digital Cinema Engineer at Omnex, you'll have the opportunity to work on the cutting-edge of audio-visual technology, including 4K laser projection and Dolby® ATMOS. You'll be part of a dynamic team tasked with installation, servicing, and support of cinema equipment across the UK and Ireland.
In this role, you'll be working in live cinema and film studio environments, performing a range of tasks from field installation work to preventive and scheduled maintenance. You'll also have the opportunity to work on film premiers at some of the country's most prestigious locations.

Job Purposes
The Cinema Engineer’s responsibilities will see them working in a range of areas – both independently and alongside other Omnex engineers - carrying out service work, ad-hoc cinema servicing, repairs, running and assisting new installations and upgrades. You will support a range of cinema clients which can include studio’s, multiplex and independent cinemas. We support a range of Premier, Multi-Media, Cast & Crew and Test Screenings to ensure they meet DCI standards, and the expectations of the filmmaker in terms of sound, picture, light and overall technical presentation.
Reporting To
The Cinema Engineer will report to the Operations Manager.
Key Responsibilities
MPS Operational Support
- Carry out installations, repairs, diagnostic tests, preventative services and health checks, scheduled maintenance work in cinemas, post-production and specialist locations across the UK and MPS QC Screening Rooms.
- Maintenance of all digital equipment to provide quality film presentation
- Set up and operate sound and projection systems
- Work on latest technologies in the audio-visual field, including 4K cinema projection and Dolby ATMOS
- Communicate directly and effectively with equipment manufacturers to resolve equipment issues
- To ensure jobs run within budget, providing post budget reconciliation and collating engineering reports
- Occasionally visit potential screening venues for, or with clients and produce detailed recce reports for the team to submit to clients, outlining the suitability of the venue and how you envisage implementing a temporary projection build
- As required be available to support projects and work in evenings and weekends
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Provide service to correct equipment problems in emergencies as they occur
- Carry out installations, repairs, diagnostic tests, preventative services and health checks, scheduled maintenance work in cinemas, post-production and specialist locations across the UK, within our Service Agreement Contracts
- Travel, when requested, to other regions within the country to assist with the installation, maintenance, and repair of all DCI Equipment
- Communicate directly and effectively with equipment manufacturers to resolve equipment issues.
- Maintain an accurate site survey for each location in the assigned service area
- To provide quotations
- To ensure jobs run within budget, providing post budget reconciliation and collating engineering reports
- Working with engineering team - responsible for their personal stock replenishing, dispatching, etc.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Stay fully familiarised with all equipment and stock, maintaining and re-stocking where required
- Attend all training courses provided and share knowledge across all departments
- To liaise with the Coordinators and across departments to ensure the timely work of all required service visits
- To establish and maintain good client/supplier relationships, both internally and externally at all levels
- To be a point of contact and representation for both MPS and Omnex
Qualifications
- Must exemplify MPS’s core Values of Fun, Innovation, Time and Trust
- Educated to degree level or equivalent experience
- Degree or equivalent level in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, IT or similar
- ElectroMechanical, IT or equivalent
- Previous experience with working in a Cinema Environment on Digital Cinema Projectors and associated equipment
- Understanding of Digital Cinema Technologies
- Understanding of IT Networks
- Familiar with Digital Cinema Projection Rooms
- An understanding of Colour Theory and its application to Cinema
- Practical experience with Electrical Engineering including the ability to read circuit diagrams and show an understanding of 3-phase electrics
- Experience with network fault finding and corrective measures
- Experience with designing or implementing systems at Studios and/or Post Houses
- Experience working in a customer facing role
- Knowledge of at least two types of Digital Cinema Projector (Sony, NEC, Christie, Barco)
- A working knowledge of configuring Dolby Sound Processors
- An understanding of multiple operating systems such as MS Windows, OSX and Linux
- An understanding of MS Office with good email, Word and Excel skills
- Excellent organisational skills
- An ability to set up, maintain and repair Digital Cinema projectors and associated equipment
- A working understanding of cinema automation systems
- Previous manufacturer training or accreditation for any/all of the above projectors
- A knowledge of theatre management systems
- Able to work evenings and weekends
- Excellent communication skills
- An ability to handle pressure in a technical environment
- Confident when dealing with demanding clients
- Detail oriented with good organisational skills
- Comfortable with the lifting and transporting of heavy kit and equipment
