Site Overview
Gurit Composite Engineering, is a part of the Marine and Industrial Business Unit of the Gurit Group, and has offices in the UK, France and New Zealand. We provide composite engineering services to designers and manufacturers and work alongside long-standing customers in various markets such as Marine, Transportation, Architecture and Wind Energy.
Purpose of the Department Function
This role id based at our Newport, Isle of Wight site and forms part of Gurit’s formal graduate training programme to develop in to a Structural Design Engineer
Description of the Role
Working hours Monday - Friday, 37.5 hours per week.
The role is focused on the design of composite structures and requires a good academic
background with the ability to develop a sound understanding of composite materials and structural behaviour.
The role will require large amounts of interaction with people internally at Gurit during the
core training programme. As technical ability and engineering skills are developed there will be a long-term requirement to work with customers and end-users.
The Graduate will spend time gaining an overview of Gurit, our products, customers and
processes. working within the Structural Engineering team predominately working as part of the draughting team whilst in conjunction developing specific work-based skills and knowledge as part of training for the role of Design Engineer.
The role is focused on the design of composite structures and requires a good academic

Key Responsibilities
Attendance and commitment to completing the core graduate training programme
Conceptual structural design and detailed design and analysis of composite engineering
projects under the supervision of a more experienced engineer.
Assist in the development of innovative and efficient engineering solutions and working
methods
Develop own technical capability and broaden engineering knowledge across different
markets
Develop and contribute to team technical knowledge – E.g. Design Guidelines writing.
Engineering of projects to an appropriate technical level and meeting timescale and budget
targets.
Training in the most significant engineering programs on engineering projects without
customer facing in the first instance.
Take full ownership and responsibility for an engineering project.
Development of practical knowledge of composite materials and manufacturing
techniques.
Develop project, commercial and personnel management skills.
Initiating and managing technical projects.
Achieving Design Engineer status at the end of the graduate scheme

Skills and Experience
Bachelors or Masters Degree in Engineering, Materials Science or related (Essential).
Proficient in the use of MS Office (Essential).
Demonstrate a high level of interest and motivation for a career in advanced composites.
Able to demonstrate an understanding of composite materials, their applications and benefits.
Excellent report writing ability for both technical and non-technical purposes
Competent AutoCAD operator and experience of drawing composite structure
Competent Rhino and/or SolidWorks operator (or other 3-D CAD packages)
Knowledge of composite building process would be an advantage.
Knowledge of Finite Element pre-processing software would be an advantage
Knowledge of Gurit product range is advantageous
