HGV Mechanic Team Leader / Lead Engineer
An excellent opportunity has arisen for a qualified HGV Mechanic Team Leader / Lead Engineer to join our team at Austin Wilkinson’s & Sons ltd
Hours - Monday - Friday
As an Austin Wilkinson Mechanic, you will assist in keeping our commitment to safety by taking responsibility for the repair and maintenance of our fleet. This will include servicing trucks and trailers.
Key Responsibilities
- Day to day maintenance of assets
- Carry out routine maintenance and repairs on all makes of vehicles and trailers to VOSA standard
- Preventative maintenance – such as inspections, tyre rotation, oil changes
- Carry out fault diagnosis on electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
- Perform minor and major repairs of vehicles & trailers
- Monitoring inventory
- Sourcing parts
- Work in line with Health & Safety and safe working practices
- Vehicle inspections, servicing, and MOT preparation
- Complete all relevant paperwork and documentation
- Perform any other duties as reasonably requested
Skills
- Prior experience working in a similar role
- NVQ Level 3 qualification or equivalent required
- Strong HGV, van, and trailer knowledge
- Full driving licence(C+E Entitlement on licence)
- Ability and desire to solve mechanical problems
- A keen eye for detail
- Team player
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Welding experience preferred but not essential
- Competent in the use of the latest diagnostic equipment

Our business was incorporated in 1960..based in Salford near Manchester, moving to purpose-built secure premises in ATHERTON, M46 Post Code in 1995.
What vehicles do you operate..
Our current fleet strength is made up of 29 plus vehicles varying from small curtain-sided vehicles up to 44 Tonne gross “ Artics”.
Do you run any special vehicles..?
We operate a number of Large HIAB * crane “ vehicles with lifting capacities up to 8 tonnes. We have a step frame trailer plus A low loader/drive on the Plant trailer.
What areas of the UK do you cover ..
We cover the whole of the UK with our own fleet and in association with 90 other Transport Companies under the shared user facility of PALLEX a nationwide distribution network
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: £39,780.00 per year
