Job description
Permanent position, 36.5 hours per week
This is an exciting opportunity for an outstanding individual with experience of working in a busy student-facing environment to take a lead in the management of the pastoral and wellbeing provision for the WBS Undergraduate Programme’s c 2,200 students.
Working with the Student Experience and Engagement Manager, and other Student Experience and Engagement Officers, you will be responsible for the development and implementation of the department’s strategic plan for student wellbeing and progression.
You will be a first point of contact, alongside our team of Personal and Senior Tutors, for students experiencing a range of wellbeing issues whilst also managing our extensions and mitigating circumstances systems. You will need to possess strong verbal and written communication skills particularly for sensitive situations, have close attention to detail and have the experience and confidence to advise students on key University processes and regulations, including signposting them to appropriate services where necessary. This role will also require you to oversee the Personal Tutor system and to be the key contact for our Tutors where further support is required.
You will take a proactive approach in this role, developing event activity, communication plans, processes and procedures to ensure all students fulfil their potential across the student life cycle – from pre-arrival to graduation. This will include developing strategies to support students from disadvantaged and/or diverse backgrounds.
You will be working as part of a wider WBS Undergraduate Student Experience sub-team and the larger WBS Undergraduate Programme Team, often working with multiple colleagues simultaneously. As such you will have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with both academic and professional services staff at all levels of experience and to be a highly effective team player in a fast-moving environment.

However, we’re more than our rankings and we’re proud to be different. We’re down to earth and approachable, and we want WBS to feel like home to our students, our staff and our alumni community. We look to provide a stimulating and fulfilling work environment for all. Our Vision
Our vision is to be Europe’s leading University-based business school, developing transformational ideas and people that shape how we do business. This vision is supported by our three-fold mission:
1. To develop cutting-edge research that leads debate and deepens our understanding of the practice of business and management.
2. To provide a transformational learning experience, enabling our stakeholders to realise their full potential.
3. To work in partnership with policy and practice, both in terms of our research and teaching activities, to catalyse the impact of our work.
Everything we do is underpinned by our CORE values and driven by a commitment to a Change Maker mindset. We look for this shared commitment across our staff and student community.
• Change Makers have the drive as well as the vision. It’s one thing having a vision but having the drive and work ethic to realise a vision is another matter. Change Makers relentlessly pursue every possible solution in order to achieve their goals.
