Bristol City Council
Full Time Bristol, England 52677 - 50534 GBP ANNUAL Today
Job description

Full Time, Permanent

Participation in culture and creativity will help drive Bristol’s future. You’ll make it happen.

The challenge
With its world-beating festivals, thriving music scene, amazing architectural and engineering heritage, and thriving creative and media sector, Bristol is a city full of energy and imagination. At Bristol City Council we’re committed to harnessing the full potential of our rich culture and creative industries to boost the local economy, encourage community cohesion and generate wellbeing.

We want every Bristol citizen to be able to participate in and benefit from the city’s cultural life and economy. As our new Head of Public Engagement for the council’s Culture and Creative Industries Service (C&CI) and its five museums – Bristol Museum & Art Gallery, M Shed, Red Lodge, Georgian House and Blaise Museum – you will be responsible for the strategic development and delivery of a vibrant, engaging and dynamic programme of exhibitions, public engagement, learning, community participation, marketing and city-wide arts development activities.

Your role
This is an opportunity to bring about real change in how audiences engage with Bristol’s culture and heritage. Responsible to the Head of C&CI and working within the terms of our Arts Council England NPO funding, you will produce a creative and thought-provoking public programme that realises the potential of our amazing collections and the stories they tell. Your programme will also highlight inventions, innovations and industry across the city and its world-class universities. We’ll look to you to drive footfall, both physically and digitally, and extend the reach, impact, reputation and revenue of the organisation.

Expect to work collaboratively with colleagues in Collections and Archives, and Commercial and Operations, as well as external partners, to deliver a programme that connects audiences and communities with our shared history and future. Meanwhile, as a member of our senior management team, you will help us build a strong and supportive management ethos and team culture across our different sites.

About you
You have substantial leadership and management experience, most likely in the museums, heritage or education sector. You’re used to leading teams to deliver high-quality exhibitions and public programmes. Your creative ability is aligned with strong analytical skills and clear long-term vision. Evidence of contributing to capital development projects and successful funding applications is important. Highly organised, with an eye for detail, you’re capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously. A strong, resilient manager and team player, you’re ready to work collaboratively across the service and council, and with external partners.

The benefits
In return, you’ll have access to a range of valuable benefits including membership of the Local Government Pension scheme and a generous annual leave entitlement. We place high value on creating an inclusive, healthy workplace and offer a range of flexible working options and family friendly policies.

How to Apply
To apply you’ll need to submit your CV along with a supporting statement summarising your interest in the role and addressing how you meet the criteria as outlined on the Person Specification.
Job share applications will be considered for this role – please contact us for further details.

For further information, please refer to the Job Description and Person Specification or alternatively, please contact Dan Feeney (Interim Head of Culture & Creative Industries) on [email protected]
