Job description
We’re looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Enforcement Officer to join our Public Health and Protection team within the Environmental Health Service.
We help individuals and communities to stay safe and well by protecting them from threats to their health and wellbeing, as well as improving their quality of life.
You’ll be able to communicate effectively with a diverse range of people whilst investigating complaints and resolving issues through negotiation and the use of appropriate enforcement powers.
Role Responsibilities- Investigate complaints of vermin, rubbish, defective drainage, filthy premises and any other conditions which may be prejudicial to health or a nuisance.
- Investigate outbreaks of infectious disease by completing questionnaires and gathering information.
- Facilitate public heath funerals under the Public Health Act 1984 where the next of kin cannot be found.
- Work with city residents and partner agencies to deliver improved services to prevent and reduce public health issues. This will include understanding and working empathically with people through difficult and complex situations.
- Collect evidence in accordance with legislative provisions.
- A valid UK driver’s licence and access to your own vehicle
- Have a broad knowledge of Environmental Health legislation and associated rules and procedures.
- Transferable skills from a previous enforcement post.
- A team player who can work collaboratively to achieve shared goals and meet deadlines.
- Proven ability to work under pressure, effectively manage their caseload and take initiative.
