Job OverviewAbout the BMA
The British Medical Association (BMA) is the trade union and professional body for doctors in the UK. We represent, support and negotiate on behalf of all UK doctors and medical students.
Join the BMA at a crucial time for doctors and the NHS and be part of a team working for better pay and conditions for the profession.
About the role.
We are looking for an Employment Adviser to join our BMA Scotland Member Services team, to provide expert advice and representation on employment law and contractual issues to BMA members in the West of Scotland. The role also involves supporting local committees and negotiations, as well as membership recruitment and retention activities. This is an exciting opportunity to join a successful, supportive team.
The ideal candidate will have sound knowledge of employment law; ideally gained through a trade union, human resources or legal background.
They will have effective communication and advocacy skills (both verbal and written), alongside analytical and well organised. Knowledge of the NHS in Scotland is desirable, but you will be part of an experienced team who will share their experience and knowledge to help you get used to any unfamiliar areas.
This role is primarily based from home but will require attendance at workplace meetings across the West of Scotland in order to represent members. It also requires attendance at BMA meetings in Edinburgh and other locations.
Applicants should therefore be prepared to travel regularly to and around the West of Scotland, hold a full, valid UK driving licence and be prepared to use their vehicle for work purposes. Occasional evening/weekend working may be required.
Interviews will be in person in the Edinburgh Office.
