Job description
Based remotely, ideally in the South East/East of England with travel nationally when required.
Applications will be considered individuals willing to work 4 or 5 days a week.
We are a fourth-generation family business and lead the UK marketplace supplying decorating materials to both trade and retail decorators. Operating from over 190 Decorator Centres nationwide, we also have several healthy and developing ecommerce businesses.
Like any organisation it’s our people that make us who we are. We are truly a family business when it comes to our people; our mantra is to ‘help one another succeed’; we want to see everyone flourish in their roles and reach their full potential and support our customers in developing their own businesses. This desire to help our people succeed is at the very heart of this new role.
It’s not just about our people and products though; the communities in which we operate matter to us. Colleagues are encouraged to be actively involved in local charity projects and each year we send a team to Kenya to help at the hospital we sponsor there.
What is the role we are looking for?
We are looking to recruit an Employee Relations Advisor on a fixed term contract to the end of 2023 who has experience and the confidence advising on employee relations cases, precedents and projects.
The role will include supporting People Business Partners and Managers with full case management and administrative support on ER issues including absence management, probation, flexible working, investigations, performance, grievances and disciplinaries, reviewing ER letter templates and other precedents we use as a business as well as supporting with other projects. Working with the People Manager and People Director this is a varied role which would suit an organised, customer focused and experienced HR professional with previous experience in an HR Advisory or HR Business Partner role. Ideally you will have previously worked in a remote or multi-site role and preferably within retail but this is not essential.
We are looking for someone that supports our values in balancing the commercial with the compassionate. We aim to provide a people focused service which supports Managers and respects all colleagues in any employment process.
This role can either be remote, hybrid or based at Albany House in Eastbourne. You will be required to attend Albany House in Eastbourne on occasions and support with in-person ER meetings when necessary.
While we will consider applicants in different geographical locations, our preference would be for someone who lives in Kent, Essex, East Sussex or East Anglia as this will complement the locations of our existing remote colleagues and be in easy reach of where a significant number of our colleagues are based.
The responsibilities of this role will include:
- Supporting People Business Partners and Managers on cases (grievance, disciplinary, capability, restructure etc) and assist with meetings when required
- Helping maintain and develop template documents for the benefit of the wider team
- Support the People Manager and Director with projects as required
- Coaching Managers on HR related skills through conversations and support, as well as practical demonstration, for example interviewing alongside a new Manager
- Working with Managers to identify absence issues, candidates for IMAs and follow-up to capability meetings including managing cases, providing full details/timeline on cases, working the Health & Safety team when required
- Providing support for other members of the People, Payroll and Learning Team when needed to help achieve the Team’s overall goals
Please state whether you wish to work 4 or 5 days a week on your application.
