About the Role
This role is 42 hours per week
St John and our people have been supporting the NHS in England through a number of ways since the start of the coronavirus pandemic. St John is looking to increase the number of ambulance trained people to continue supporting the national COVID-19 response in the coming months as part of our ongoing commitment to care for patients and support the NHS.
Our charity’s vital role in responding to the needs of communities across the nation has never been more relevant or urgent. St John people are supporting patients across the country in hospital emergency departments and by responding to 999 calls.
With St John continuing to ease the pressures on the NHS, we are now looking grow our Ambulance Operations teams to support ambulance trusts and ensure we continue our vital work in communities and support ambulance trusts around the nation.
As Emergency Ambulance Crew, you will be responsible for responding to both emergency and non-emergency situations where you will assess and treat patients to your trained skill level. You will be responsible for providing high quality, professional and compassionate care for patients and ensuring current clinical practice procedures and requirements are followed.
This unique and rewarding opportunity will allow you to train towards a qualification in Emergency Care and support your community and local ambulance services playing a pivotal role in the fight against COVID-19. As an organisation, we will provide all the necessary training and give individuals the chance to work alongside experienced Ambulance Crews in order to give you all the tools, information and knowledge to feel comfortable working on the frontline.

About You
To be considered for the role you must be educated to GCSE level and have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels. You should have a minimum of 12 months driving experience, and hold a full UK driving licence with a maximum of three penalty points. Candidates will need to have an enhanced full DBS and complete a health check to ensure they are able to take up frontline work. If you do not currently hold an enhanced DBS, part of the process will be applying for one. Working hours will be on a shift basis, this is not a 9 to 5 role and will include weekend and bank holiday working.
You must be able to work shifts of 12 hours in length, plus unplanned overruns, over a 24/7 operational period, including late shifts, nights, weekends and Bank Holidays.
