The Company
Helen Amy Murray’s eponymous London studio meticulously hand-sculpts leather, suede, silk and other textiles into unique three-dimensional decorative surfaces. Her work is globally sought after and can be found in private residences, superyachts, flagship luxury stores and multi-star hotels across the world.
The Helen Amy Murray studio is situated in the heart of East London and has a team of 12 including the production team of embroiderers and production assistants along with designers and other team members.
The Role
We are looking for an Embroidery Assistant to work in our East London Studio, to be part of our small design and production team. The role is predominantly working on a machine sewing artworks.
The embroidery assistant role involves sewing through layers of material (faux and genuine leather, suede and silk). You will assist Head Embroiderer and Production Manager with all embroidery tasks, from internal library sampling through to commissions.
You will ensure the quality of your own work, and that of the studio meets the highest standard. You will also support all members of the production team to ensure each project runs smoothly and meets deadlines.
Person Specification
- Have a good working knowledge of operating a Bernina Industrial Machine.
- Be confident using the embroidery free foot (darning foot).
- Be able to embroider free hand, as you will need to be able to follow patterns.
- Be good at drawing and tracing.
- Have a good eye for detail and quality.
- Be able to manoeuvre small and large areas of material (faux and genuine leather).
- Be able to work under pressure whilst maintaining a high standard of finish.
- There is the opportunity to learn the skills of the wider Production Team in addition to the sewing technique, and to become an integral part of the Studio.
Salary
£24,000 - £26,000 (Salary negotiable depending on experience and skills)
