About the role

Electrical Terminal Technician - LNG, Isle of Grain, Kent

This is an exciting opportunity to join an expanding terminal, which is of strategic national importance to UK energy infrastructure and security of supply. We're the largest terminal in Europe and eighth largest in the world by tank capacity with a site that spans over 600 acres in total.

National Grid’s Grain LNG terminal in Kent recorded its busiest year on record in 2022. The facility, which enables ships to dock, offload and store Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) in its tankers, has seen 91 ships arrive on site in 2022 – 60 per cent more than in 2021.

As an Electrical Terminal Technician, you'll ensure the continued safe and reliable operation of Grain LNG’s Electrical assets through the efficient maintenance and operation of those assets. You'll also support and provide assistance in ensuring the effective day-to-day utilisation of resources and prioritisation of work within the tasks and projects allocated. This operation and maintenance allows the terminal to meet its requirements under the COMAH regulation.

In this role you’ll experience high-profile, high-impact projects while being supported by comprehensive training and development opportunities. You’ll play an active part in our exceptional engineering and contribute to building a more secure and sustainable future for energy.

  • Provide technical standby cover by means of rota and ensure emergency response readiness is in place to meet the requirement of EIMS.
  • Be proactive in all aspects of the work programme or site operation communicating with the LNG Terminal Engineers and Assistant Engineers to enable the work programme or site operation to stay on track and be updated to maintain targets as necessary.
  • Be responsible for electrical isolations prior to the safe setting to work from the permit team and carryout the role of site contact under the terminal permit system.
  • Keep up to date with all site maintenance and operational records of all work activities and operations undertaken.
  • Be a part of and support the construction and commissioning of new assets within the terminal identifying the requirement to replace/upgrade existing plant and equipment as well as participating in the design of minor modifications, and the provision of technical support.
  • Contribute to the development, review and update of emergency, security, safety, operational and environmental plans and procedures to ensure safe and cost-effective operation of plant and equipment.
