Position Summary
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Electrical Shift technician, to join our team based at our Beverage factory in Dalston. You will support the factory in ensuring timely and efficient completion of maintenance and compliance-driven tasks and management of a small industrial services team who support the business across the whole site.
Nestlé Dalston Factory in Cumbria is the European Centre for cappuccino and creamers producing a range of beverage products. These are produced through a highly automated PLC controlled process plant and automated filling and packing lines. It is continually developing and expanding leading brands such as Nescafé, Aero Hot Chocolate and Coffeemate. The factory is moving forward with continuous improvement principles and actively developing Lean/TPM processes so it’s an exciting time to be involved.

A day in the life of an Electrical Shift Technician
As a shift technician, you will be a key point of contact for all technical matters on shift across the whole factory.
You will be working to drive improvements in the performance of machinery and assets, technically supporting the shift leader and developing the technical skills within the engineering and operational teams.
The factory is moving forward with continuous improvement principles and actively developing TPM processes so it’s an exciting time to be involved, and it is expected that you will play a key part in the move from reactive to proactive maintenance.
To work as part of the technical team throughout the shift ensuring work is prioritised in accordance with production plans, schedules and engineering requirements and carry out a comprehensive handover.
Responding to breakdowns within the plant, maximising production output and ensuring the smooth flow of the operation.
Looking after all aspects of cost, efficiency, quality and maintenance activities including administration.
Contributing to the upkeep of all relevant technical documentation.
Participating and positively contributing to site initiatives as requested to include HACCP, ISO9002, CDM etc.
Raising purchase orders where required, liaising with the Maintenance co-ordinator to ensure that appropriate stock levels are maintained within budgetary constraints.
Support lead technician to complete remedial actions from Compliance audits.
What will make you successful
You will have strong engineering ability along with initiative and attention to detail. Experience of modern manufacturing techniques such as 5S, LEAN and TPM would be ideal.
You will:
Be educated to HNC or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering time served apprenticeship.
Be able to demonstrate skills working on pneumatics systems, process equipment including gearboxes drives, pumps, valves, and also/or packaging equipment.
Possess a logical fault finding approach to breakdowns.
Be able to communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders
Demonstrate a sense of urgency whilst never compromising safety or product quality.
