Electrical/Systems Medical Device Engineer
Location: Cambridge, UK
Opto.bio is an early-stage, venture backed company developing implantable technologies which can interface with the human body to understand and treat underserved medical conditions. We are seeking those who are not only exceptional but have an ambition to push the boundaries of engineering and science to tackle some of the most complex biological disorders. Given the stage of the company we are seeking people who can move at a fast pace, work with a generalist “all hands on” approach and are eager to learn. It is essential that you can orient yourself to find and solve technical problems as we build.
We are seeking an experienced Electrical/Systems Engineer who will lead the development of the wireless power system for our implantable medical devices. You will be responsible for specifying, prototyping, implementing and testing the wireless power system compliant with standards and suitable for medical device regulations.
You will work cross-functionally with other members of the engineering team to help set the technology roadmap and deliver an integrated wireless power system.
Responsibilities
● Lead the wireless system design from conceptualization to scalable manufacture.
● Implement, test, and debug the wireless system (at circuit level).
● Coordinate with other engineering leads to ensure parallel integration throughout product development cycle.
● Assist with development of product pipeline.
Qualifications/Key skills
● MS in EE, physics or equivalent
● A level of experience equivalent to 5+ years in Hardware/Systems/Electrical
Engineering
● Led or played a key role in designing, building, and testing wireless hardware products from concept to manufacture.
● Ability to differentiate and determine optimal wireless systems based on different architectures.
● Deep knowledge of circuit design and system integration of wireless systems.
● Experience with PCB design, layout, and assembly.
● Knowledge of EU/US active medical device regulations.
● Experience with circuit and EM simulation tools.

● Strong communication and organisational skills to work collaboratively within a close team setting.
Bonus Skills
● PhD in EE, physics or equivalent
● Experience in IC design
● Knowledge of low power electronics design
● Knowledge of small-scale battery and power conversion techniques
● Experience working with external consultants, manufacturers or suppliers

Salary: £42,000.00-£55,000.00 per year
