About the Role:
goTenna seeks a passionate, mission-driven, quality-oriented Electrical Engineer to join its engineering team. The Electrical Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, testing, validation, and production release of RF electrical systems at goTenna. The Electrical Engineer provides electrical design and product development support as part of a cross functional development team that delivers high quality products to meet demanding customer requirements. This role is based locally in New Jersey/New York, but we are open to a flexible working schedule which allows work to be done at home and on-site. Travel to meet with customers or visit our contract manufacturer should also be expected.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Create electrical hardware designs and system integrations for RF handheld radios, deployment charger systems, and test fixtures.
- Participate in the full design life cycle through initial technical assessments, electrical concepts, simulation, schematic capture, board layout, design verification testing, and product validation.
- Provide consulting and troubleshooting on technical problems that arise in product development, production, and fielded use.
- Develop and support test requirements for product characterization and verification.
- Ensure the electrical designs and system level solutions meet the intent of the requirements documents and marketing interfacing specifications.
- Create, contribute to, and execute engineering schedules and program budgets to meet customer and marketing requirements.
- Perform engineering calculations, measurements, analysis for new development verification and sustaining engineering work.
Write technical specifications and engineering test plans for product development.
Required Experience:
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related field
- 3+ years of experience in an Electrical Engineering role
- Working experience with microcontroller based designs containing multiple hardware interfaces (GPIO, SPI, I2C, USART, and USB).
- Proficiency with schematic capture and layout tools (Altium preferred)
- Experience with board level and product level test fixtures.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and take ownership with minimal supervision.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively on cross-functional teams.
- Experience using test equipment such as oscilloscopes, network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, data acquisition systems, and programmable power supplies.
Preferred Experience:
- Working knowledge of commercial and military performance standards such as FCC, CE, IEC, Mil-Std-810, and Mil-Std-461.
- Understanding of ISO 9000 and other quality-related best practices and certifications.
- Familiarity with DFM/DFA principles working with contract manufacturers
- Knowledge of RF radio-communication, RF power and filter circuits, and antenna design.
- Knowledge of power supplies, AC/DC and DC/DC converters, battery chargers.
- Experience in electrical design and development of system level RF solutions.
- Familiarity with a scripting language, especially Python.
- Exposure to agile software development practices.
- Preference for working in the innovative, fast-paced environment of ap.
ITAR: U.S. Citizen or Green Card Required
Placement at the appropriate job level (entry, senior, etc) will be determined by a combination of years of experience, demonstration of proficiency in this field, and other qualifications.
