Job description
We are looking for Electrical Design Engineer that will manage, under the Lead Designer a small team of direct reports where applicable. This may include some specialist consultancy posts. Will ensure regular two-way communication and engagement with teams including sub-contractors and coordinate essential compliance activity via Team and report through compliance administrator to ensure we meet statutory duties at level required.
Duties:
· To manage several specialist consultants and will have a small number of direct reports.
· Liaison with clients, external consultants, contractors, and other team members
· Production of design information including associated engineering documents (such as drawings, calculations, reports) within the required timescales.
· Assistance in general clerical and administrative duties to ensure the smooth running of the Design Services Engineering Department.
· To progress a range of both small and medium sized engineering projects simultaneously working individually or as part of a team on larger projects. In both cases, most work should be carried out with minimal supervision, but with regular consultation with the Lead Designer or other team members.
· Project work, in addition to design, will include all aspects of the construction process such as testing of products, as well as other organizational tasks as deemed appropriate to ensure timely progress of projects being worked on.
· Carry out quality assessment of the design works to ensure that at the design stage of the project, risk assessment in accordance with the Construction Design and Management (CDM) Regulation was taken into consideration.
· Coordinate and liaise with site supervisors regarding the installation process.
· Maintain an interest in costing and the tendering of additional works.
· Involvement in a variety of projects with a view to optimising and reducing the energy consumption at a site.
· Attendance to sites to monitor ongoing installations as they evolve, trouble shoot should the need arise and carryout witness testing of installed systems
· Overseeing and vetting of other mechanical design consultant’s services and design information.
· The production of engineering design and detail in accordance with the Supplier's quality management system.
· Assisting with the appointment of sub-contractors and in assessment of their design proposals.
· Ensure regular two-way communication and engagement with teams including sub-contractors.
The candidates must have:
· Relevant academic/ Professional qualification
· (BEng/BSc) or hold NHD/HNC qualifications in the relevant subject (Mechanical Building Services Engineering)
· Relevant experience
· (Minimum 3 years)
· AutoDesk Revit (Building Design Suite/AEC) for BIM Processes (Consideration of inclusion of MagiCAD for Revit is in progress)
· Facility with AutoCad
· Ability to design to several works’ packages
· Understanding of statutory and legislative regulations on refurbishment, new build and modernisation of social housing dwellings and commercial public buildings
· Wider understanding of construction and commercial and procurement markets across the industry
· Ability to manage and monitor performance effectively and set clear objectives.
· Good practical experience of cost management and monitoring across a range of projects
· Ability to solve problems using relevant principles and experience.
· Ability to influence, develop and motivate, and to successfully change behaviour.
· Related knowledge gained through experience within this organisation and/ or experience gained outside this organisation.
· Knowledge of underlying principles within the relevant field.
· Experience of managing budgets and people
