Job description

Your Impact:

At Jacobs, we'll inspire and empower you to deliver your best work so you can evolve, grow and succeed – today and into tomorrow. With more than 55,000 people in 40+ countries, working at Jacobs offers an exciting range of opportunities to develop your career within a supportive and diverse team who always strive to do the right thing for our people, clients and communities.

People are Jacobs’ greatest asset, and we offer a competitive package to retain and attract the best talent.

In addition to the benefits you’d expect, UK employees also receive free single medical cover and digital GP service, family-friendly benefits such as enhanced parental leave pay and free membership of employee assistance and parental programmes, plus reimbursement towards relevant professional development and memberships. We also give back to our communities through our Collectively program which incorporates matched-funding, paid volunteering time and charitable donations.

Our Power and Energy team provides a range of services to our transmission and distribution clients. This includes work on transmission system assets, HVDC interconnectors, energy storage systems, inertia systems, wind farms and advanced facilities for mission critical industries in the technology and process sectors.

As part of our diverse team, you’ll be providing a range of services throughout the design process on all elements of HV cable systems (mostly from 132kV up to 500kV). This includes feasibility design through to the preparation of technical specifications, production of detailed construction drawings and design compliance checks for our major energy clients.

Your technical expertise will ensure design compliance and governance and you’ll be considered a trusted advisor by clients, skilfully interfacing with them throughout design phases. As a team player you’ll enjoy working collaboratively with other members of the design team and encourage others to think innovatively in the way we deliver solutions to clients.

Work-life balance and flexibility is a key focus area for Jacobs. Our core design team is based across Jacobs’ offices in London, Birmingham, Reading, Bristol, Cardiff, Glasgow or Exeter. However, with offices throughout the UK, we can be flexible about location and are happy to discuss hybrid, part-time and flexible working hours to suit you and our business.

Here’s What You’ll Need:
  • Bachelor’s Degree Electrical Engineering
  • Power systems or utility experience
  • Working knowledge of Cymcap software
  • An excellent technical bias, a keen interest in technology and mathematical modelling and a methodical approach to problem solving
  • Excellent communication skills to articulate a clear technical direction with good social, networking and presentation skills
