Job Title: Electrical Maintenance Engineer Apprenticeship
Location: Hartlepool (TS25)
Length of Apprenticeship: 4 years
Salary: Year 1 & 2 £10,021 , Year 3 £15,190 plus 27.5% shift allowance, Year 4 £20,645 plus 27.5% shift allowance - (yearly salaries will be made equivalent to apprentice national minimum wage )

The Role
As an electrical craft maintenance engineer you will be responsible for maintaining the safety, reliability, quality & performance of the relevant equipment. This will involve preventative & breakdown maintenance, installation of equipment and continuous improvement techniques in an effort to reduce costs & improve efficiency
Exposure to duties will include the use of a computer based maintenance & stores system, isolation / making safe equipment, following prescribed preventative maintenance routines, responding to breakdown situations and apply continuous improvement techniques work.
The tasks cover a wide range of disciplines and equipment including:
- Safety Critical Systems
- Conveyance & pipe handling equipment
- Over Head Cranes & mobile plant
- Motor Maintenance (AC & DC)
- Inverter and Converter drive systems
- Low Voltage & High Voltage distribution
- Domestic and Industrial installations
- Automated cutting & milling equipment
- High Frequency Induction Heating and Welding equipment
- PC & PLC Software
Universal skills gained are:
- Application of IET Regulations
- Inspection and Plant Condition Monitoring (Plant Maintenance)
- Fault finding and diagnosis
- Slinging, Rigging & Transportation
- Bench fitting and machining skills, drill, presses, lathe, grinding
The Apprenticeship
The successful candidate will be joining an established 4 year apprenticeship training program using nationally recognized qualification, leading to an “Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Apprenticeship”
The four year period will consist of:
Year 1: Full time College Study (Level 2 & 3)
Year 2, 3 & 4: Onsite shift-working* with one day release to college. This includes a rotation within different departments/functions.
- Shift work is dependent on age.
Apprentices are encouraged to enhance their Year 3 & 4 studies by completing an HNC in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
Experience will include aspects of:
- Maintenance Engineering & Planning
- Environmental & Energy Awareness
- H&S Working (IOSH)
- Continuous Improvement techniques
The Candidate
You must have, as minimum, 6 GCSE’s, grades A* - C or grade 4 – 9, two GCSE’s must be at Grade B in Mathematics and one STEM Subject and four GCSE’s must be at Grade C and include English Language.
It is essential you have:
- a genuine interest in Engineering and Manufacturing, showing a passion for this type of work.

- qualities that will fit into our way of thinking; include passion, drive, enthusiasm, imagination and the ability to adapt to new challenges.
