Job description
Electoral Services Assistant
Grade 3, £21,189 up to £22,369 per annum pro rata
37 hours per week on a permanent contract
Electoral Services are looking to recruit a keen and committed assistant to join our team to support the administration of free, fair elections and referenda across the borough area and the compilation of the electoral register.
If you have an interest in learning the mechanics behind the democratic process, and you are looking to start a career in an exciting and challenging service in local government, this is the perfect role for you.
As our Electoral Services Assistant, your tasks will range widely across the democratic process – from assisting members of the public in understanding the electoral registration system, to inputting application data into a bespoke elections management system, to booking polling station venues, appointing staff and helping to run the counting of votes. As we are currently preparing for local elections in May this year, you’ll get to see behind the scenes of the whole process from top to tail.
You will be a positive and enthusiastic individual, committed to delivering quality front-line service to our residents. You will need excellent communication and customer service skills, as well as the ability to organise your diverse workload effectively to adapt to a fast-changing environment. You will be able to always exercise political impartiality and demonstrate an excellent attention to detail. Flexibility and willingness to work additional hours at peak periods is also essential to the delivery of our service.
An understanding of electoral systems and regulations would be an advantage, but full training and support will be provided, with encouragement to develop in your career in Electoral administration.
