IBK are currently working with a family who would like to recruit a PA to work with their elderly mother. Having Alzheimer's, this lady has support to keep safe and well with regular care calls from the place where she lives in her own flat in modern apartment development. Although they call to see this lady 7 times per day, she is in need of some dedicated one to one time which you, as her PA will be able to give.
At 91 this lady is frail, although yet mobile and loves to go to the communal lounge where there is a TV and free hot drinks machine.
She is warm and sociable lady who is always happy to see people. She has a loving and involved family but she needs some extra companionship, someone to talk to and some encouragement to eat light snacks.
She likes to look at old photos and reminisce about old times. She enjoys going to the communal lounge to watch films and attend music and other entertainment. There is a ‘Hobbies room’ in the development, with a range of activities that can be borrowed - e.g playing cards, dominos, jigsaws etc.
Key tasks of the PA role will be to;
- Spend time with the lady in her apartment providing companionship.
- Make regular drinks and light snacks and encourage the lady to eat.
- Support her to take occasional walks into the garden.
- Spend time with her in the communal lounge, perhaps watching the entertainment.
- Some light domestic duties.
Essential
- Be friendly, reliable, and honest; and maintain confidentiality.
- Be patient and encouraging and be aware of her needs as someone with Alzheimer's
- Have a warm and friendly personality
- Have a genuine desire to enhance the person’s life and encourage their independence and well being.
- Communicate with this lady's family as necessary.
Hours
Flexible hours per week, depending on the applicants availability and to work around the support already in place. Ideally support will be divided into 2 hour blocks over the week. To be decided at interview.
