Job description
Sherwood Farms Ltd is a family run business situated in the village of Hickling. The farming business has been running and growing since the 1940’s. Today the business is a mix of predominately laying hens and arable crops, but also includes a composting business, a mix of renewable enterprises, a horse livery, property and more. You would become part of a team of around 20 people who work within the business.
This role is primarily working as part of a team grading and packing eggs.
Working as a team, you will be loading eggs onto the grader machine, checking the eggs to ensure they meet quality standards, packing eggs into boxes before they are sorted into customer orders. The different jobs are rotated to allow variety. This part of the role is Monday, Wednesday and Friday with a need to work Tuesdays when there is a larger supply of eggs (this changes throughout the year depending on when the chickens are laying). We start at 8am and are usually done for 5pm although this can vary between 3pm and 6pm depending on supply.
Then the weekend work involves the collection of eggs from a laying unit. This is a highly automated process and takes around 5-6 hours per day. This is on a 1 in 4 weekend rota with other members of staff doing the other three weekends.
