We are seeking to appoint an Education Welfare Officer to work within Middlesbrough’s Access to Education team.

You will take the lead in ensuring that schools are fully supported when they are managing the attendance of children with a Social Worker and will be a key contact for our Social Worker colleagues.

Your role will be to ensure that this group of children are prioritised and supported to improve their school attendance, working with a range of stakeholders to provide a comprehensive service, and seeking out new and innovative ways to improve attendance. You will link with schools’ existing attendance teams and provide additionally, support, advice, guidance, and training.

You will also manage the CME Team (Children Missing Education) - a small team of staff who locate children who have gone missing from education and make sure proper arrangements are made to keep them safe.

This role will involve supporting staff in schools, ensuring all statutory educational requirements are fulfilled and liaising closely with schools and other interested parties.

You will need to provide regular, detailed, and accurate reports for senior staff, detailing progress against a range of KPIs and plans for further development and improvement.

We are looking for someone with significant experience of working with schools, vulnerable learners, and families, who can demonstrate a successful track record of working collaboratively with a range of stakeholders.
