The Faculty: The UCL Bartlett Faculty of the Built Environment is the UK’s largest and leading multidisciplinary faculty of the built environment, covering architecture, construction and project management, planning and environmental design as well as other specialist fields. About the role

Main purpose of the job: The overall purpose of the post is to be responsible for the management and administration of taught programmes and research programmes, including the provision of support to academic/teaching staff and students throughout the entire student life cycle. Management of the team will involve setting objectives, giving feedback and appraisals, planning work and managing performance. For all courses/programmes, the post holder will ensure that effective practices are adopted for dealing with all aspects of programme delivery. This will include enquiries, applications, procedural adherence, examinations, and progression. They will take a lead on reporting to accrediting bodies and managing the procedures to maintain accreditation and prescription as relevant for each programme. The post offers dynamic opportunities to work with the School Manager, Student Registry Services and Faculty Office staff to innovate and manage a large team to deliver the best possible service for students on all School programmes. They will also work with other members of the School Professional Services team and academic community to actively engage in and implement continuous improvement of courses/programmes, assessment and student experience. Key responsibilities and outcomes: To take overall responsibility for the administration of teaching courses/programmes of the designated area, strategically managing these courses/programmes to improve their administration, teaching quality, policies, protocols and processes. Advise and support the School Manager, Departmental Tutor, Director of School and other senior members of staff on a wide range of educational issues, including contributing to strategic plans, policies, procedures and operational matters, and implementing those related to the education provision. Support the Head of Department and School Manager to break down silos between the academic and Professional services teams, supporting all staff members to understand each others’ roles and the interaction between roles. Team Management: -To manage a team of teaching and learning administrators and the course/programme related activities for the designated and will be expected to: Set individual and team objectives; Monitor performance; Give feedback and appraisals; Identify training needs; Coach and mentor direct reports; Manage performance; Ensure cover and ‘role shadowing’ is satisfactory at all times; Ensure team members performance is aligned to UCL’s Ways of Working framework and values in BSSC. About You

Qualifications, experience and knowledge: Substantial experience in a senior administrative role in higher education, or experience of project management in a complex environment or educated to degree level; knowledge of GDPR and other data protection requirements; and a record of successful line management and development of staff with proven team leadership and motivational skills, delegating as appropriate. Furthermore, experience of being involved in delivering on Equality, Diversity & Inclusion initiatives; experience of Course/Programme Management tools and knowledge of governances and quality assurance practices and procedures in Higher Education; and experience of working within university regulations and procedures is desirable. Skills and abilities: Computer literate, including Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, email and internet; ability to think strategically and manage several tasks at any one time; ability to write strategic/Operational reports; excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to liaise with a variety of people, including the ability to relate to staff and students in a teaching and learning context; ability to empathise and a commitment to providing a high level of customer service and an ability to solve problems with confidence and decisiveness; and Course/Programme administration including dealing with student/customer enquiries.
