We are looking to recruit an Education Liaison Officer to join the Youth Justice Team within the Children and Families Service – Early Help.
The Youth Justice Team is a multi-disciplinary team established under the Crime & Disorder Act 1998. The team comprises of professionals from key partner organisations including Health, Probation, Police, and Children & Families Service. The key objectives of the team are to prevent and reduce youth crime, protect the public from serious harm, safeguard the welfare of young people and to facilitate reparation to victims and communities. The team is committed to providing high quality services to children and young people in the criminal justice system, their parents, and to the victims of crime.
Early Help works alongside children, young people (up to the age of 19, 25 years when there is an identified SEND needs) and their families. Our work is strength based and underpinned by our ‘Strength in Relationships’ practice model where we work alongside other relevant agencies to ensure we support young people and their families to create their own sustainable plans that really make a difference. We provide interventions to children, young people and their families, drawing on their strengths and helping to build support networks as well as statutory work for those open to Children’s Social Care and Youth Justice.
The core focus of the Education Liaison Officer role is to:
· Increase the educational attendance and attainment of young people of statutory school age known to the Youth Justice Service
· Increase educational, training or employment outcomes for young people of post statutory school age known to the Youth Justice Service
· Take a lead role for education issues for young people open to the Youth Justice Service, providing advice and guidance to colleagues in order to achieve an increase in the number of young people accessing appropriate full-time education provision
· Provide Information Advice and Guidance services to young people as appropriate
The post holder will do this by working directly with young people, their families, colleagues, schools and other education providers. The post holder will maintain oversight of groups of young people and liaise with schools, colleges and other education/training providers where full time suitable education, training or employment is not being offered, providing advice on how to improve provision and escalating cases of concern to the Virtual School Head and other relevant Senior Managers.

Enhanced Level DBS Disclosure is required for appointment to this post and be qualified to a degree level qualification or equivalent in a relevant field relating to working with children young people and families as well as the ability to travel across the locality.
