- Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field.
- Five (5) years of teaching experience, including two (2) years of experience in educational administration.
- Arizona State Department of Education Certification in adult education, elementary, secondary, or special education.
- Must possess a valid Arizona driver’s license or have the ability to obtain it by the time of hire.
- Training that may be provided on-the-job: FEMA NIMS – IS100 and 700; Safety; Payroll; PREA.
- Prior to hiring, the Sheriff's Office requires that all candidates pass a background review.
- Master’s Degree in Education or related field.
- Three (3) years of teaching experience in educational administration.
- Three (3 years) supervisory experience in an educational setting.
- Experience in the fields of corrections, juvenile and adult education, and inmate transition from jail to community, with direct personnel supervision.
- Oversees and manages all educational functions.
- Manages all academic, vocational, and recreational curriculum and programming including assessment, instruction, and transition.
- Ensures all students are placed in classes and programs according to needs.
- Implements policies and administers rules and regulations relating to the school.
- Evaluates all staff members as required by policy.
- Assists in the recruiting, screening, hiring, and assigning of the school’s staff.
- Conducts classroom visits on a regular basis and provides instruction/curricular assistance to all staff.
- Develops and recommends teaching strategies and programs for the improvement of instruction.
- Coordinates the development and operations of the School Improvement Team and the School Improvement Plan.
- Ensures that all relevant divisional requirements are maintained (e.g., North Central Association, Arizona Department of Education, Exceptional Student Services).
- Oversees and manages grant funded services.
- Analyzes test data and requires teachers to establish curricular goals for school and classroom.
- Provides the in-service orientation and training of teachers with staff development directly related to the curriculum and instruction programs.
- Conducts staff meetings on a regularly scheduled basis for the purpose of professional development aligned with the school curriculum and goals.
- Assumes responsibility for the safety and administration of the school.
- Ensures adequate supervision of students in the classroom and recreation areas.
- Assists and supports teachers and staff in developing and maintaining a school-wide discipline program that is directly supported by the classroom discipline program.
- Delegates authority to responsible personnel to assume responsibility for the school in the principal’s absence.
- Supervises all administrative, certified, and detention personnel assigned to the school.
- Delegates duties and authority as necessary for effective staff utilization to ensure high standards of student conduct, extra-curricular programs, attendance, and health of students are met.
- Manages and prepares the school budget.
- Supervises the preparation of all school reports for command staff and the Board.
- Coordinates with maintenance staff for daily upkeep and maintenance of the school.
- Represents the school at school functions, meetings, and community functions.
- Achieves high visibility and availability to students and staff.
- Coordinates input regarding school policies, practices, and procedures with staff.
- Acts as a liaison between the school, the community and emphasizes positive public relations.
- Consults with Division Commander to coordinate efforts in the operation of matters that relate to the entire school.
- Ensures the Division Commander is informed of all matters concerning the operation of the school.
Work occurs primarily indoors in a secure care environment with inmate contact on a regular basis. Tasks require managing time pressures and high work volumes with high degree of decision making, concentration, and accuracy. Position requires ethical conduct and a professional demeanor.

Typically, successful candidates are hired at a salary rate, up to midpoint of the range, based on applicable experience, internal equity and budgetary allowances.
