Job description
We’re looking for an enthusiastic and organised individual who is interested in working Higher Education, to join the Faculty of Natural Sciences’ Education Team.
You will play a key role in the implementation of the Faculty’s education strategy to ensure that the Faculty meets its strategic objectives and takes advantage of every opportunity to excel further in its education and EDI-related programmes and activities.
50% of the role will be dedicated to liaising with and co-ordinating student-focussed equality, diversity and inclusion-related activities across the Faculty’s departments. Key to this will be working with departments to develop implementation plans to enact change to ensure equality and inclusion across minority and underrepresented groups. This will include ensuring and sharing best practice with departments in these areas.
Within the remaining 50% of the role, you the role holder will provide support for existing and new education initiatives and projects, in line with the Faculty’s strategic objectives, such as the existing Make-A-Difference student innovation competition. You will also develop specialist knowledge and contribute to the development and implementation of the range of student and teaching records and information systems in use across the College.
Excellent organisational and project management skills, attention to detail, and the ability to develop positive working relationships with colleagues from a range of departments and professional services will be key to succeeding in the role.
Duties and responsibilities
Your responsibilities will cover a range of areas, but some of the key duties will involve:
Equality Diversity and Inclusion
- Ensure coherence and communication across the Faculty’s departments in initiatives related to recruitment, support and retention of historically underrepresented students
- Support departmental staff in implementing new practices and policies resulting from strategic priorities; this includes (but is not limited to): staff/student recruitment, teaching, training, data collection and data usage
Education development and implementation
- To coordinate and manage relevant Faculty projects and working groups related to education and the student experience.
- To manage meetings and other consultation events with elected student representatives (both academic and wellbeing); interfacing with Imperial College Union on a regular basis.
Education initiatives and opportunities
- To provide specialist advice and support for the development of new Faculty-wide education projects and initiatives to support the Natural Sciences-wide curriculum
- To interface with the Strategic Planning Division to ensure regulatory obligations which fall within the remit of the Faculty are undertaken correctly and in good time
Information management and provision
- To develop skills in the use of a range of student and teaching records and information systems in use across the College to provide complex analyses and recommendations
- To maintain specialist knowledge of relevant student survey results and student outcomes metrics, and provide support to Directors of Studies to develop action plans to address results
Essential requirements
We expect you to be able to demonstrate the following:
- Educated to Degree standard, ideally in a STEM subject area, or possession of equivalent qualifications or training
- Experience of committee administration and management, including preparation of papers
- Significant experience in using Microsoft Excel and Word, as well as experience in using other Office applications
- Experience of data analysis and report preparation
- Excellent understanding of higher education and academic administration
- Immediately credible with academic staff
- Reasonable level of technical skills, with the ability to assess usefulness of new technologies for academic administration
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interrogate complicated data sets
