About the Role:
The successful candidate will work on educational and professional/reference titles in subjects such as Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Ecology, Plant Science, Food Science, Agriculture, and Forestry, Geology, and Environmental Science. The Editorial Assistant will assist the international editorial team in the management and development of our publishing in these and other areas. They will manage and implement essential administrative processes and ensure internal systems are correctly maintained and updated. This will involve building relationships with authors and colleagues across various publishing functions to ensure a high level of service.
How you will make an impact:
Supporting the efficient day-to-day running of publishing processes for life sciences and earth/environmental sciences books
Ensuring data and metadata in our internal systems are correctly updated and maintained
Issuing contracts and taking care of post-contract administration, including briefing colleagues on contractual specifications for individual projects
Maintaining contact with authors, editors, and contributors to track progress and book proposals and book projects
Developing excellent author/editor/contributor relationships and providing a high level of service
Liaising with colleagues across the publishing process and providing information as required
Managing author and colleague communication over covers and marketing copy
Carrying out post-publication work including announcements and complimentary copies
General administration such as processing payments for authors and reviewers
Assisting in the proposal and typescript review processes and providing research support to the commissioning editor
What we look for:
Education to university level or equivalent
Excellent administrative and organizational skills
Strong communication skills including, where necessary, persuasion and sensitivity
Keen interest in and knowledge/experience of book publishing
Interest in and commitment to academic publishing
A background in natural sciences would be an advantage
Proficiency with MS Office products
