We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Supervising Editor to lead our team of editors in producing top-quality sports journalism content. As a Supervising Editor, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing the editorial vision for our sports section, ensuring that our coverage is engaging, informative, and relevant to our audience. Typical work day at theScore:
- Supervise and schedule a team of News Editors.
- Monitor breaking news across the sports landscape; assign coverage accordingly.
- Manage content in all sport verticals to ensure a first-rate user experience.
- Strategize and coordinate with the Managing Editor, Features Editor, and Social Editors to ensure best-in-class coverage across all verticals and mediums.
- Oversee editorial approval of all push alerts.
- Write content as required.
- Assist the Managing Editor in implementing changes to editorial policies.
- Provide necessary performance feedback to the Managing Editor and News Editors.
- Help ensure editorial guidelines and best practices are followed in the newsroom.
- Support the Managing Editor in building content plans for special events.
- Oversee coverage for special events as needed.
- Other duties as required.
About You
Requirements:
- Previous experience as a news editor and/or writer in a post-secondary or professional newsroom setting.
- A degree in Journalism is preferred.
- Experience in sports media; digital focus is preferred.
- Experience managing and leading a team.
- Irrefutable knowledge of and passion for all major sports.
- Strong knowledge of modern digital journalism, social media, and the mobile landscape.
- Ability to confidently make immediate editorial judgments in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to write and edit in a modern, creative style.
- Excellent communication skills
- Available and prepared to work evenings and weekends.
