Who You Are:
You are an experienced and detail-oriented editor with a passion for high-quality content and a talent for managing freelance editors. You are skilled in various aspects of editing, including copy editing and proofreading, and are proficient in adhering to style guides. In addition to your editing skills, you have excellent leadership skills, with the ability to effectively manage relationships with freelance editors, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines to the highest standards. You are passionate about the publishing industry and are committed to staying up to date with changes in language and grammar rules. You are strategic in your approach to editing and have a talent for identifying areas for growth and improvement, with a commitment to delivering high-quality content that drives business growth.
What You’ll Do:
Provide editing services
- Edit manuscripts for grammar, spelling, punctuation, syntax, and consistency, ensuring that the text conforms to the style guide and is free of errors.
- Collaborate with the product team, authors, and other editors to ensure that the manuscript is clear, concise, and engaging.
- Fact-check information and ensure that references and citations are accurate and up to date.
- Ensure that all publications adhere to legal requirements, copyright laws and ethical standards.
- Review and implement corrections to galleys and proofs, working closely with the product team.
- Develop and maintain the Ivey Publishing style guide and ensure that all publications adhere to it.
- Keep up to date with changes in language and grammar rules and ensure that the style guide is updated accordingly.
Management of freelance editors
- Manage a team of freelance editors (TFE), including hiring, training, and invoicing.
- Provide ongoing feedback and coaching to the TFE to help them improve their skills and deliver high-quality work.
- Set expectations for the TFE and ensure that all members understand their roles, responsibilities, and goals.
- Ensure the team of freelance editors adhere to the Ivey Publishing style guide, editorial policies, and best practices.
Initiatives, innovation, and research
- Help develop and refine editorial policies and processes to improve efficiency and ensure consistency across the team.
- Conduct research and analysis to identify potential new approaches to editing.
What You Have:
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or a related field.
- Minimum 4-5 years of experience in copy editing, proofreading, and editorial management, preferably in a publishing house.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat, and CRM systems (Salesforce).
- Experience with fact-checking and research.
- Knowledge with styles guides such as Chicago Manual of Style or AP Stylebook.
Skills & Abilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to work efficiently under tight deadlines.
- Knowledge of grammar, punctuation, and syntax rules and the ability to apply them in a consistent and accurate manner.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Leadership and management skills including the ability to inspire and motivate a team.
- Extremely effective interpersonal skills with a professional presence and manner; capable of exercising independent judgment and flexibility.
- Passion for the publishing industry and a commitment to high-quality editorial standards.

Position Type:
Full-time (35/hours a week) 3-year renewable contract.
Hiring Range
Based on the salary band for this role, candidates can expect to be offered a starting salary in the range of $63,800-$79,700. When determining salary, Ivey Business School considers the external market, candidate qualifications, as well as internal equity. Once in the role, successful candidates will have the opportunity to progress through the range and beyond the hiring range of the band, through annual increases.
