About the role:
Reporting to the Senior Science Lead, the Science Editor ensures our client's maths and science content is appropriate for the market. The role holder will be instrumental in the creation of science and maths test preperation content, responsible for content production – including authoring, reviewing, editing and supporting internal and external authors – analysing and developing product specifications, and maintenance of published content. The role holder will also be responsible for the accuracy of scientific information within company articles, newsletters and tutorial content.
Main duties:
- Working closely with the Senior Science Lead to analyse biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics assessment items to develop specifications and guidelines for authoring, review and editing.
- Writing, reviewing and editing assessment items, answers and explanations in line with developed specifications.
- Briefing, monitoring and supporting authors and reviewers to ensure the production of high-quality content that is fit for purpose.
- Reviewing the work of external contributors and providing feedback to achieve optimal output.
- Supporting the development of tutorial content in line with the company's learning model
- Writing, editing and reviewing articles, newsletters and scripts for scientific accuracy and consistency.
- Working collaboratively with colleagues in the Learning Team and wider company to ensure assessment items are well integrated in supporting tutorials and learning media.
- Maintaining and updating existing content following changes to specifications and/or technological advancements
- Briefing and reviewing supporting artwork and learning media as required.
The ideal candidate:
Qualification, experience and knowledge
- Min. Bachelor’s (2:1) degree or equivalent in a relevant scientific or mathematical discipline.
- Experience developing and writing scientific content for assessment.
- Experience in teaching/PGCE qualification is highly desirable but not essential.
- Knowledge of learning design/curriculum development is desirable but not essential.
- Experience of content editing, copy-editing and proofreading is desirable but not essential.

- Strong project management skills and a track record of efficient content delivery.
- Meticulous attention to detail – style/consistency, grammar, scientific accuracy, proof-reading, layout, etc.
