Your New Role...
Working within Post Production, the Edit Assistant is primarily responsible for undertaking a range of media management and edit support functions within the department. This role requires editing skills using Avid Media Composer, Adobe Premiere and Adobe After Effects. An understanding of Post Production and non-linear editing workflows is a must.
The Editor Assistant will support the Editors and the Technical Operations Manager in providing high levels of customer services to all clients and across all workflows. The Edit Assistant will be required to highlight any client needs, edit sessions, workflow challenges/efficiencies or technical/operational problems to the Technical Operations Manager. This role also includes Quality Assessment work.
Your Role Accountabilities...
Receipt and processing/ingest of video, audio and GFX materials for Post Production’s Edit, GFX and Audio work.
Management of media and projects on all relevant network locations, file delivery/viewing systems and archives, including NEXIS workspaces and the MediaCentral / Interplay platform.
Conforming/Preparing sequences and media in advance of an edit, grade or audio session.
Playing out, packaging and delivering assets from and to Edit, GFX and/or Audio.
Rendering/transcoding of assets using any necessary software and/or hardware solutions.
Providing technical and/or operational support to the editors, the general Post Production team, other staff members and clients.
Carrying out basic Edit, Packaging or GFX work as required.
Communicating queries or missing materials to Edit Bookings and/or the Edit Coordinators. Liaising with the internal and external media suppliers where necessary.
Reporting any technical problems to the Post Production Engineering team and feedback any issues to the Technical Operations Manager
QC'ing of assets, including newly created materials
Keeping all work records and logs up-to-date and accurate
Able to thoroughly carry out metadata entry tasks
An impeccable attention to detail is a must
Responsible for ensuring all operational procedures are followed thoroughly and precisely
Prioritize and deal with certain queries as quickly and efficiently as possible
Analyze the current workflow and propose/report anything that can be improved
You may be required to work shifts (days, nights and weekends shifts)
Qualifications & Experience...
Good knowledge of Avid Media Composer is absolutely essential.
Knowledge of Adobe Premiere and Adobe After Effects is beneficial.
Knowledge of file-based workflows and broadcast technology, including understanding of video and audio theory
Knowledge of common filetypes, codecs and resolutions.
Ability to QC and repair, where necessary, erroneous content
Understanding of the AVID Interplay server is a plus
Good organizational skills – a focused, analytical and methodical approach with excellent attention to detail.
Self-motivated with the ability to manage your own time and work to meet demanding deadlines
Ability to coordinate, prioritize and work in a fast-paced environment
Ability to work well under pressure
Technical training and experience in a recognized post facility or media-based organization.
Ability and motivation to research and self-teach using available online editing resources, where necessary.
Good operational knowledge of working within a team editing environment
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Able to use initiative and make decisions, but recognize problems and escalate as appropriate
Excellent IT and computing skills
