As Barclays Economist – Sub-Saharan Africa, you will primarily focus on Sub Saharan Africa, particularly the French speaking part, and several other emerging markets economies. You will also be working closely with the rest of EEMEA economists and strategists. The successful candidate will show real interest in supporting the team’s thought leadership through rigorous analysis of economic policies and market trends.

We are currently in the early stages of implementing a hybrid working environment, which means that many colleagues spend part of their working hours at home and part in the office, depending on the nature of the role they are in. What will you be doing?
• Producing timely reports both ahead of and in response to data, complementing these with thematic, and longer shelf-life products
  • Creating weekly pieces of product publications and contributing to other regular publications like the Global Economics Weekly, the Emerging Markets Quarterly, and the Global Outlook
  • Working very closely with and feeding into our Macro Research function both in EEMEA and globally
  • Expressing the bank’s view about the economic outlook for these economies including political developments, macroeconomic forecasts and multilateral relations
  • Regularly communicating internally and with external clients
  • Contributing to regional flagship and regular EEMEA and EM publications
  • Hosting regular client events with experts, policymakers and thoughtful leaders


What we’re looking for:
• Master’s degree from top university
  • Deep knowledge of macroeconomics and central bank balance sheet
  • Fluent or native level of French and English (both written and spoken)
  • Understanding of EEMEA region


Skills that will help you in the role:
• Preferably a PhD in macro economics
  • Experience with multilateral creditors, development agencies or central banks
