Job description
Frontier Economics is an economics consultancy that tackles the big questions facing governments, businesses and society. We help our clients to analyse and understand their markets and to formulate strategies based on sound economics. The methods and models we use are often complex, but our advice is always succinct, clear and honest.
We are recruiting experienced economists to join our Energy practice. Our Energy team works with Europe’s leading energy companies, regulators, governments and investors; providing economic analysis and clear advice to help our clients achieve commercial success and make better policy and regulatory decisions. Our expertise covers best practice regulation, competition advice, dispute support, strategy and policy development and investment/transaction support. We have worked on energy related issues in more than 50 countries and on all continents. The latest examples of our work can be found here.
We are looking for talented team players, with specialised skills and valuable expertise, who have a desire to advance their career path. You will be responsible for:
- Identifying and applying analytical economic frameworks to address energy and climate related client issues.
- Working with client and internal colleagues to agree timelines and confirm the required resources.
- Pro-actively managing the scope and deliverables on workstreams, showing awareness of budget.
- Taking initiative on more complex workstreams, project planning and identifying resource requirements.
- Structuring, reviewing and editing client outputs, whilst considering how others could interpret outputs.
- Leading the preparation and delivery of client meetings; responding to client questions with impact and empathy.
- Identifying potential opportunities and/or a better understanding of client needs (beyond the project).
- Guiding others in application of theory and appropriate techniques across range of different projects to provide client insight and add value.
- Ongoing day-to-day supervision of colleagues, delegating and giving feedback appropriately.
Although this role will predominantly focus on Energy related projects, we strongly encourage all of our Economists to work across Frontier’s different practice areas – that is, to be ‘fungible’. Fungibility benefits both individuals and the firm as a whole, and we believe it is core to maintaining our values and our culture.
In addition to stimulating and thought-provoking project work, we offer numerous benefits to support you inside and outside of work. All employees have access to numerous Learning & Development opportunities including ongoing Career Development Reviews with the support of an allocated Mentor.
We understand the importance of work/life balance and offer flexible working arrangements. Our hybrid working model means we expect most people to combine coming into the office with working remotely, either from home or elsewhere. We are encouraging a 60:40 split either way, with a full-time colleague typically being in the office 2-3 days a week. How you split your time will depend on the meetings in your diary, projects you may be working on, the time of the role etc - we want you to be able to embrace the flexibility while thinking about what works best for The Company, Your clients and You. In addition we provide 28 days annual leave with the option to purchase an additional 10.
Frontier is entirely owned by its employees. As Shareholders, we encourage everyone to put forward their views. Not only do we influence how the company is run but we choose to distribute as much of our profits as is prudently possible through bonuses. In addition we offer a highly rewarding salary.
We are open to applications for our Berlin and Cologne offices. Please be mindful for this role, the successful candidate will be fluent in German. We expect the successful candidate to have the ability to apply a range of microeconomics tools to policy and business issues. Therefore you should have at least a degree with a main focus in economics or another highly analytical/quantitative discipline. You will also be able to communicate complex economic arguments in non-technical language, and to build effective working relationships with clients and colleagues. It is desirable for candidates to have prior economic consulting experience.
Should you have any questions or would like any additional information please email [email protected]. We are looking forward to receiving your application.
