The Health Economic Function is responsible for ensuring the value of diagnostics to the patient and healthcare system is clearly demonstrated to position them at the heart of care pathways.

The Position

This is an excellent opportunity for a Health Economist seeking an exciting role with potential for growth in a world-leading Healthcare Organisation.

The main purpose of this role is to support the delivery of the UK affiliate’s reimbursement activities in England, the Devolved Administrations and the Republic of Ireland. This involves but is not limited to developing submissions to NICE (as well as similar bodies in the devolved nations) for clinical biomarkers that support screening, diagnosis, prognosis or monitoring of disease in our target areas of Cardiac and Critical Care, Oncology, Reproductive Health, and Alzheimer’s disease. As such you will need to develop broad expertise in multiple disease areas including knowledge of current and future diagnostics, access hurdles, care pathways, guidelines, commissioning arrangements and influencing bodies.

You will be involved from up to three years pre-launch through to the post-launch to ensure an NHS-appropriate value proposition, reimbursement strategy and the necessary Health Economics tools are in place for the biomarkers prior to, or immediately following, Commercial launch.

You will be a strong health economics modeller, with effective communication and influencing skills, be someone who thrives in a complex, networked environment and be comfortable in working on multiple projects across different disease areas simultaneously. You will work in close collaboration with internal Local and Global colleagues spanning Market Access, Medical Affairs, Public Affairs, Marketing and Life Cycle teams, with the Diagnostics and Pharma divisions.

You will contribute to key projects including value proposition development, health economic research and publications, and specific disease-related projects.

Other key responsibilities include:

  • Health economics and outcomes research, modelling, and reporting/publishing to quantify the value of Roche Diagnostics’ technologies in economic or societal terms. Where necessary, conduct local adaptation of Globally-developed health economics tools;
  • Developing a range of tools and materials to support market access activities at a national, regional and local level;
  • Creating and delivering training material for field-based teams on clinical and health economic data;
  • Leading on the implementation of tools and materials to internal and external stakeholders in order to accelerate adoption of our high medical value products;
  • Disseminating NICE consultation documents, summarizing and briefing on the context and implications, collating responses from local and global stakeholders, overseeing review and approval of drafts, and submitting responses within deadlines;
  • Providing content or editorial support for grant applications, marketing material containing economic messages, or market access material where necessary;
  • Attending and gathering information from relevant external meetings including NICE guideline workshops and committee meetings, scientific grant briefing meetings and MedTech industry meetings;
  • Developing request for proposals for external vendor support from an agreed template, and liaising with vendors over clarification questions.

  • Travel (<30%), including some international travel, is expected
  • This role can be Home or Hybrid (part home - part office) based

Who you are

We are looking for a flexible, hardworking and highly motivated individual with an enquiring mind. A strategic thinker; you can drive change and the adoption of new concepts. You will already have some (+2 years) work experience in Health Economics gained within a Pharmaceutical, Medical Technology, Health Technology Appraisal Agency, Healthcare agency environment or the NHS. Working familiarity with at least one disease area relevant to the Roche Diagnostics portfolio is a plus. You will be educated to at least a Master’s level in Health Economics, Health Technology Appraisal, Decision Modelling or similar and have model building experience using MS Excel. Knowledge of statistical analysis/modelling software such as R, SPSS, STATA or TreeAge would be an advantage.

In order to be successful in this role you will have the ability to absorb, simplify and train on detailed clinical and health economic information, as well as the ability to work reliably and to deadlines. Demonstrable project and process management skills, you can prioritize multiple tasks and goals to ensure they are achieved in a timely, on-target fashion. Broad experience in literature searching, literature critiquing, data summarising and data analysis techniques, with an awareness of relevant data sources, is a must.

Patients are at the heart of what we do, so a strong inclination to realisable solutions is desirable.

You will be a strong communicator, able to work independently and within a team. You will have experience of developing effective working relationships with a wide range of colleagues and working in multi-stakeholder, cross-disciplinary teams in a complex matrix organisation.

International work experience is a plus. You will possess an outstanding eye for detail and quality, and be fluent in written and verbal English to a strong, scientific standard.
