Job description
We are looking for an ecologist to join our friendly, professional and very busy environmental consultancy based in Kent.
Working alongside the rest of the team, ideally you will have an awareness and/or relevant qualifications in environmental practices like ecology, planning requirements and be able to assist in how we can best deliver solutions to our clients.
We are looking for somebody with a working knowledge protected species, phase one habitat surveys and show competency with regard to protected species and ecological of report writing, with ability to carry these out and/or liaise with our freelance network of ecological surveyors to manage these on our behalf.
We take pride in offering an inclusive based service to our clients and the right candidate will be expected to uphold this responsibility. Candidates will be expected to show an understanding of survey data and to provide recommendations and advise clients appropriately.

Please note: a full UK driving license with access to a vehicle is preferred, but not essential.
The right candidate will be expected to demonstrate a working knowledge of current ecological practices and legislation and be able to meet the the following criteria:
- report writing
- knowledge of relevant surveys including phase one ecological appraisals
- knowledge of protected species - dormice, bats, badgers, birds, reptiles
- engage logic and critical thinking
- communication and people skills (you will be dealing with our friendly subcontractors, freelancers, clients)
- diary management - booking surveyors, booking surveys
- understand project budgeting and cost management
- manage workload appropriately and timely to ensure all projects are being delivered as needed
- assist and support other members of the Fellgrove team
- Ecological qualifications or licenses - preferable, not essential as training can be given.

We are currently working from home and are based near Canterbury, Kent however work all over Kent and the South East. This will be a remote working position, though this may change in the future we are open to candidates from all areas of Kent and the South East.
