Job description
UNISON is Britain’s leading trade union, with over 1.3 million members working in the public services, private, voluntary and community sectors and in the energy services. In the Eastern region we have approximately 82,000 members in Essex, Bedfordshire. Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire, Norfolk and Suffolk. We represent members, negotiate and bargain on their behalf, campaign for better working conditions and pay for public services. There are over 55 staff in the region but most of the union’s work is delivered by over 600 volunteer activists.
We deliver an exciting and varied education programme that develops new activists and those that are more experienced. Our Regional Education Officer has responsibility for the programme and the administrator works closely with them.
Key tasks for this role are based around the regional education programme and will include administration of all regional activist training courses, workshops and events, overseeing course applications, preparation of resources, keeping digital records and answering queries about education via email or phone.
The role will also involve building effective working relationships with branches, reps, UNISON Learning and Organising Services and external venues and education providers. The successful applicant will also play a key role in the planning and delivery of residential education events, as well as the production of the annual education programme.
This role is key to our regional education programme, and as such the successful applicant should be able to work under pressure to tight deadlines, manage workload effectively and understand how our education programme works.
