Job purpose:

This role will focus on early portfolio and providing medical/scientific input- in potential “new” programs & input on R&D assets targeting to ensure medical and access considerations are considered early in the research and development phase of a program. It is expected that this role will provide support to new access solutions to expand access to GSK’s Global Health and Commercial pipeline and portfolio in lower income countries.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Act as “early access medical affairs lead” for GH assets in development (up to POC) in the Rx and Vx GH R&D unit:

  • Build a systematic, consistent, robust approach to provide medical/scientific input for “early access” in the GH pipeline assets involving relevant team members
  • Ensure access considerations are considered early on (particularly related to target product profile, value proposition, access feasibility), working closely with the early project teams
  • Provide medical review of the Target Product Profiles of the GH assets and lead the Access team input into go/no go decisions of the GH assets to help ensure R&D investment are prioritized towards assets with highest access feasibility and impact
  • Enable early identification and start of access activities (e.g. Identify and engage disease specific experts and forums and closely track new product development R&D initiative through PDVAC, SAGE etc.) to maximize potential asset impact and increase asset attractiveness. Prepare strong rationale by evaluating unmet medical need and disease burden in the therapy areas like TB, Malaria, AMR & Enteric diseases including assessment of GH opportunity (beyond public market in LMIC/LIC or in HIC/UMIC)

2. Develop and implement medical action plan for an expanded Access Ambition for GSK commercial pipeline and portfolio

  • Develop medical access plan in the standard business Integrated Assets Plan approach to enable decision making related to including a Global Health (GH) access plan into a brand plan as part of the usual stage gate decisions of a program
  • Provide inputs and reviews Market Access Value Proposition for early and late R&D pipelines products (commercial Rx &Vx assets) for low and low middle income countries

Develop and review scientific materials (abstracts, posters, publications)

  • Train internal Global Health and medical staff on selected assets and on competitive data
  • Deliver selected asset data proactively at scientific congresses, national broadcasts, and local programs
  • Develop and execute medical engagement plans for therapy area (for e.g. Malaria, TB, Enteric diseases)
  • Develop and execute evidence generation plans for therapy area; develop strategic responses to medical voice of customer

3. Provide input into overarching GH Access Strategies, e.g., Pandemic Preparedness, Anti-Microbial Resistance (AMR), working closely with the GH Access Lead and team members

4. Actively engage with key external stakeholders and prepare strategic recommendations along with Access Planning Lead to senior stakeholders across the company, including GLT, on an ongoing basis to enable delivery and continued expansion of access strategy and visibility of the GH Unit and the impact of the GH Access programs

Qualifications

  • Medical Doctor with an infectious disease background
  • Experience in designing and delivering Scientific Affairs & Public Health plans; coordinating medical engagement activities
  • Demonstrated knowledge of therapy area, treatment options and patient care in the field of Infectious diseases like TB, Malaria & Enteric diseases
  • Familiarity with the key medical/scientific experts within the therapeutic field
  • Significant experience in R&D/medical organization, at country and global level, including pre-clinical and clinical studies
  • Experience working in lower income country in a health-related field and/or in public-private partnership
  • Proven track record of working across multiple departments and in cross-functional matrix teams
  • Strong problem solving and strategic thinking paired with effective communication
  • Experience and credibility with senior lead teams/stakeholders, with demonstrated personal impact and ability to understand scientific requirements
