Joining as a Duty Control Room Manager, you’ll provide real-time monitoring, supervision and control of our water supply network.

You'll either have previous experience in a water network control room or an established background from within the water industry. We may also consider control room experience gained from an industrial process or infrastructure environment, or someone with a mechnical engineering background with an excellent understanding of the various assets, plant and systems utilised within the water industry (pumps, motors etc.).

Our control room monitors the performance of remote assets to ensure key targets are being met. This means using data returned to the control room from a range of systems, sensors and plant to maintain a clear picture of what is happening at any given moment. You stay alert to changing situations and challenging circumstances. You'll make use of telemetric, plant and sensor data to work closely with the our field based operational teams and call centre colleagues to ensure network performance is optimised and operating within expected parameters. An Engineering background or water industry experience will help you to better understand the different assets that make up our network (pumps, motors, valves etc) and the data produced.

You’ll be part of a team of 6 Duty Managers giving 24/7 supervision to its smooth running. It means that you’ll be able to work 12 hour shifts and join a standby rota. The shift pattern is based on a 40 hour working week and tends to follow a 3-on 3-off or 4-on 4-off approach with alternating day shifts 06:45-19:00 and night shifts 18:45-07:00. You’ll have view of your rota well in advance to help you plan ahead.

The package is made up of a base salary up to £42,200 per annum depending on experience + 20% shift allowance on top. There is also a payment made for being on standby. And, you’ll receive a lieu day when you have to work a bank holiday which will be deducted from your owed hours.

What will you mainly be responsible for delivering?

  • One of six shift managers to ensure South East Water provide a 24 hour, 7 days a week, 365 days a year service to our internal and external customers and stakeholders.
  • Outside of normal working hours this role will be the key interface with Retail organisations on water supply events, incidents and emergencies.
  • To ensure our response to external customer issues is pro-actively controlled and communicated through our corporate phone channels and web site and our response to internal operational issues is pro-actively controlled and communicated.
  • To ensure our production sites are operated efficiently to agree plans set by our Asset teams ensuring abstraction licences are not breached and storage levels are maintained to optimise operational efficiency.
  • A focus on proactive monitoring of corporate systems to identify issues and trends before failures occur.
  • Proactive monitoring of supply interruptions ensuring they are appropriately escalated and contingency plans are considered and implemented.
  • Proactive management of operational events until an incident is declared and then playing a key role in the implementation of emergency and recovery arrangements under the direction of the incident team.
  • To work on the continuous improvement of the core operational reporting system PRISM ensuring key information is available and reporting is accurate and comprehensive for the effective management of production sites.
  • To support the development and training of control room staff and co-ordinating closely with production process and maintenance managers to ensure improved understanding and monitoring of key operational sites. Developing comprehensive operating procedures for use of control room and operational staff.
A requirement to be first aid trained, which would then ensure adequate first aid provision at all times.

What do you bring to the role?

  • Experience in managing operations functions at a similar level.
  • Experience in resolving complex customer issues.
  • Experience in managing teams of people.
  • Knowledge & experience of legislation – H&S, Highways, Water Quality.
  • Security Clearance at CTC level.
  • A degree level qualified candidate in an engineering / relevant field
  • Consideration will be given to personnel who have a proven track record with 5+ years in an operational management position.
