Role: DofE Operating Authority Manager
Location: Home Based (covers all agencies)
Hours: Part time – 1/2 days a week (Flexible)
Salary: £120 per day (plus expenses covered)
Contract: Freelance
About the role:
Are you passionate about supporting young people to develop themselves through the Duke of Edinburgh Award (DofE) and other alternative programmes? If the answer is yes, this exciting post may be for you.
The National Fostering Group is a network of fostering agencies across the UK providing caring and supportive homes to looked after children. As our own DofE Operating Authority, we are looking to appoint a DofE Operating Authority Manager, who will work across all our agencies to develop the award and boost opportunities for looked after young people.
As DofE Operating Authority Manager you will be responsible for:
- supporting our growing network of leaders with the running of the award in our fostering services
- helping services to set up the award in their setting / area
- working to promote the award across the group with the aim of developing participant numbers and completion rates
- supporting expeditions across the group (summer)
- the vision, co-ordination, smooth running, safety, growth and success of the award in our fostering agencies
- quality assuring completed awards
This role also delivers other adventure opportunities, such as expeditions with British Exploring Society, another one of our partners. All opportunities are designed to boost outcomes for looked after children.
Essential skills and knowledge:
- have considerable experience of running a DofE centre as a Leader and Assessor / Supervisor
- be experienced in the use of eDofE
- have run and be confident running expeditions at Bronze level
- be able to drive, with own car (mileage provided at 45p per mile)
- have excellent administrative, organisational and IT skills
- have effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing, with a variety of audiences
- be able to provide inspirational leadership and motivate adults and young people
Desirable skills and knowledge:
- Outdoor Specific First Aid (training to be undertaken if currently don’t hold this)
- Mountain Leader Qualification (summer or winter)
- other Outdoor Education Qualifications
- have experience of education or social care settings
- project management experience
