Job description
An exciting role has arisen within West Yorkshire Police’s Transport Department, where we are looking for a highly skilled and motivated individual to join us a Driver (Non HGV).
The successful candidate will be responsible to carry out transport duties including collecting and delivering covert vehicles, new vehicles, marked police vehicles, NCS, Prison Service, Motorcycles, and spare parts for the department on a national basis.
You must have the capability to undertake the following key responsibilities:
- Lead by example and behave in line with the Police Code of Ethics ensuring that the force values and behavioural expectations are clearly understood and considered by managers, officers and staff in their decision making and actions, reinforcing and influencing them through interactions and processes.
- To drive all force vehicle including light commercial vehicles
- To utilise light recovery vehicles to enable damages or disabled vehicles to be recovered from Force buildings, the roadside or motorway complying with legalisation and safe working practices.
- To assist the driver of multi deck HGV vehicles to move large multiples of vehicles around the force.
- To carry out minor vehicle repairs whilst at district and departments to ensure vehicles can remain operational and avoid unnecessary downtime.
- To provide driving duties on request from police or police staff
- To ensure that the vehicle parking area is efficiently managed to ensure the area is maximised to its full potential. To provide snow clearing and gritting duties, when necessary.
- When requested proved onsite out of hours security cover to allow contractors to maintain the grounds and buildings to ensure access is available to authorised personnel and that building security is always maintained.
- To be conversant and comply with the Health and Safety at Work and COSHH regulations set out by the Force to ensure safe working.

The successful candidate must have 2 years’ worth of driving experience, hold a full current UK/European driving licence and the ability to provide minor vehicle repairs and maintenance.
