We have a vacancy for Waste Operative/Driver Chargehand at our depot in Bury St Edmunds.
You will be an experienced LGV class 2 driver with a demonstratable driving history, experience of waste collection industry would be an advantage.
Your main duties will include driving and loading refuse collection vehicles, roll on off and skip vehicles, either working alone or with other crews collecting all types of waste from the West Suffolk area.
You will need to be physically fit and be able to load refuse bins each day. You will also need to be prepared to work outdoors in all weather conditions, occasionally you may also be required work at our other locations to carry out any other work as appropriate to the grade of the post.
You will be able to demonstrate a positive approach to health and safety and be prepared to take on additional training as required, ensuring work is carried out to the standards required and meets the deadlines required.
You will be flexible with a strong customer focus and be able to demonstrate a desire to deliver high standards of service. You will have some basic computer literacy/knowledge and be able to operate ‘in cab’ and handheld technology and other in-house systems as appropriate. Maintaining presentation, cleanliness of PPE (uniform) and the collection vehicles will also be a measurable objective.
Working hours are mainly early starts (06:00 – 07:00) Mon – Fri with some potential for Saturday working. We have a variety of shift patterns across the week including 4-day working in some areas. We also operate a group task approach to completing daily rounds and expect teams to work together in order to deliver services.
The successful applicant will be required to satisfactorily complete 6 months’ probation, thereafter you will have opportunities to progress along the pay scale through an annual performance review scheme.
You will hold a minimum of a LGV Class C licence, and an up-to-date DCPC card is required.
