Reporting to: Transport Supervisor/Operations Manager/Warehouse Manager

Purpose of Role:

  • As a Driver you will be competent in all aspects of collection and delivery of our products. The Team count on you for various crucial tasks, therefore the ability to work alone and as part of a team is paramount.
  • Good communication and commitment are essential. You will be an organized individual who can multi-task, solve problems and operate proactively.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • To collect/deliver our products collecting and delivering to/from the addresses supplied, in good condition and within the specified time. Any queries, delays, damage to, or doubts about the condition of the load should be notified to the Transport Supervisor immediately.
  • To assist with the safe loading and unloading of the vehicle and to secure the load properly using to equipment supplied. You are responsible for the safe and secure loading of the goods. From time to time the customer may supply instructions and/or special equipment for securing the load. You will be expected to follow these and use any equipment supplied, providing it is safe to do so.
  • To check and report any faulty, worn or damage to the straps and load restraints to the Transport Supervisor immediately.
  • To be responsible for the safe keeping and security of any Company electronic equipment issued i.e Sat Nav or Company Mobile Phones
  • Carry out a daily check of your vehicle at the start of your shift and to check any subsequent vehicles you may use throughout your shift. These checks should include all the items on your vehicle defect sheet plus oil, water and fuel levels.
  • Keeping the HGV in a clean and presentable condition both inside and out. Any defects or damage should be reported as soon as possible to the Transport Supervisor. You will be responsible for your vehicle, which will be inspected from time to time by the Transport Supervisor and/or the Operations Manager.
  • Managing your compliance with Tachograph (if applicable) and working time directive rules ensuring that appropriate breaks are taken at the required times. You will also need to have your Tachograph card downloaded weekly.
  • Report any route deviation, for any reason, to the Transport Supervisor immediately.
  • Familiarise yourself with the vehicle height prior to commencing any journey.
  • Appropriate usage of company fuel.
  • You may be required from time to time to carry out other work as requested by any Supervisor, Manager or Director of the Company.

Person Specification -

  • Physical strength, fitness and dexterity (often have to lift heavy packages or work at elevated heights)
  • Good knowledge of the Highway Code
  • Excellent team-working skills to effectively collaborate with other members of the warehouse team
  • Good interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills
  • Organisational and record-keeping skills to coordinate large volumes of goods
  • Honesty and trustworthiness
  • The ability to work effectively under limited supervision

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Salary: £12.75-£15.00 per hour
