We have an exciting opportunity for a Driver Team Manager to join our Operations team based out of our King's Cross depot. Guiding and managing a team of Drivers, you'll ensure trains and traction units are correctly and economically resourced and are operated in a safe and punctual manner in accordance with current rules and regulations. It's a fantastic opportunity to become a Driver Team Manager on the East Coast route, one of the most iconic stretches of railway in the UK and with the introduction of our Azuma fleet there has never been a more exciting time to join LNER!
What will you do?
Joining LNER as a Driver Team Manager you'll be involved in the following:
- Provide inspirational leadership, directing, motivating and coaching a team of Train Drivers, ensuring compliance with technical and safety standards and the achievement of planned objectives in terms of safety, quality, customer service, cost, performance & employee engagement.
- You'll also be involved in carrying out recruitment and selection, monitoring, safety briefing and competence assessments in accordance with ECML and industry wide standards applicable to Train Drivers.
- Assessing the training needs of all Train Drivers, including trainees. Implementing training plans as required and conducting the relevant modules of the Train Driver Training programme.
- Implementing, where appropriate employee development, welfare, consultation, negotiation, attendance improvement, performance improvement, discipline and grievance procedures.
- Investigating and managing operational performance and safety incidents, detailing root causes and providing recommendations to prevent reoccurrences.
- Working with the Safety & Operations Standards team to develop safe methods of work and undertaking risk assessments relevant to Train Drivers.
- Monitoring and review safe working environments within area of responsibility.
- Developing and maintaining personal competency and expertise in Train Working, including traction and route knowledge.
- Operate trains as and when required.
- Commitment to do cover on call.
So, do you have what it takes?
To make it as a Driver Team Manager you'll need to be:
- A productive, qualified mainline Driver for at least 4 years from date of initial qualification (this does not include depot or metro driving).
- Holder of a valid certificate of competency/Safety Critical work licence covering Rules and Regulations relating to Train Driving.
- Holder of a Personal Track Safety qualification.
- A Competence Assessor (D32/D33/A1or equivalent) or be working towards this.
- Have experience of coaching & mentoring or instructional techniques.
- Demonstrate experience with operational traincrew (or equivalent) and the application and compliance of relevant agreements.
- Have strong negotiating, mediating and organisational skills.
- Have experience of incident management.
- Able to work as part of a team.
