Summary of Duties:
Driver/Messenger provides transportation, delivery and/or errand services to all mission programs.
Provides safe driving services to senior officials, program managers, mission staff, and other visitors or dignitaries. May also drive CBS dependents and clients, in certain circumstances.
Provides courier and logistics services, arrange for vehicle maintenance and cleaning, undertake
vehicle administrative duties, and may additionally support the mission by assisting with basic administrative, protocol, maintenance and other support services following established mission and departmental policies.
Area of Selection:
Open to internal and external applicants who are residents of the United States having independent work authorization and status in accordance with U.S. protocol directives for employment in a foreign mission (US Citizens, Legal Permanent Residents or A, G or NATO-2 category visa-holders) who meet all of the essential requirements stated below and whose applications are received by the closing date.
Please note that the mission will not reimburse relocation costs under any circumstance and that the mission does not sponsor work authorizations directly or indirectly.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, language* and experience.
Candidates must clearly demonstrate when applying to the position how they meet each of these essential qualifications.

Education:
Candidates will be required to provide proof of the completion of their education.
Graduation from a secondary/high school or the equivalent. (Examples of equivalent diplomas are General Educational Development (GED) and Adult Basic Education (ABE).
Language:
An intermediate proficiency level in writing and speaking in English.
Experience:
- Minimum four (4) years’ experience driving for a Consulate, Mission, VIP clients, or providing livery services in the Chicagoland Area;
- Experience in itinerary planning, pre-analysis and preparation;
- Experience in car maintenance (i.e. changing a wiper blade, adding wiper fluids, and having an elemental understanding of car maintenance
- Experience providing basic administrative and/or clerical services
RATED REQUIREMENTS
The Rated Requirements are part of the essential qualifications and are relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies. Methods of assessment for rated requirements may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview (online pre-recorded/live or in-person), role-play, practical tests, presentations and/or psychometric assessment.
Knowledge:
1. Familiarity with local Metropolitan area and the surrounding areas;
2. Excellent knowledge of street routes and traffic patterns in the local metro area; and
3. Knowledge in using standard office equipment and work with Microsoft Office Suite, i.e. Excel, Word, Outlook and other databases.
Competencies:
1. Effective interpersonal skills;
2. Sound judgment and decision making skills;
3. Takes initiative and proactively engages in planning and research;
4. Discretion; handles sensitive information on a need-to-know basis;
5. Attuned to safety and security considerations.
6. Punctual/Dependable; and

Abilities:
1. Ability to communicate effectively in English orally and in writing.
2. Provide excellent client service, maintaining composure when dealing with unusual situations or difficult clients.
3. Plan routes and itineraries efficiently and effectively, taking into consideration security concerns, timing, and potential obstacles or delays.
4. Think critically about security matters and adapt to potential security situations quickly and safely.
5. Operate assigned vehicle in a safe and courteous manner and keep the car tidy at all times.
6. Perform administrative support tasks such as record keeping and data entry, while paying attention to detail; and
7. Use GPS, navigation, and related technology systems.
Asset Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications.
- Fluency in French (oral)
- One (1) year experience driving official delegations and VIPs, including High Level Officials
Operational Requirements:
- Normal hours of work for this position are in accordance with the Terms and Conditions of Employment for Locally Engaged Staff (LES) in the United States of 40 hours per week.
- The employee must be able to work overtime and work evenings and weekends.
- The employee must drive in all types of weather conditions.
Conditions of Employment:
Conditions of employment must be met or complied with before being appointed to a particular position, and are to be maintained throughout the employment while being the incumbent of this position.
- Valid work authorization: Ability to obtain and hold a valid work authorization covering the entire employment period.
- Security screening: Obtain and maintain a Reliability Status (security level) which includes a criminal and credit background check from the Government of Canada covering the entire employment period.
