Driver
Rustington, West Sussex

Most of us grow up with 5 senses and can’t imagine what it’s like to lose any one of those.

For some ex-service people, this is their reality. Suddenly their whole way of life is changed, even walking to the shops becomes a huge task.

Fortunately, Blind Veterans are here to help rebuild their lives. But they can’t do it alone.

This is where you come in.

As a Driver for Blind Veterans UK, you’ll provide safe and enjoyable journeys for our veterans in a variety of vehicles, both manual and automatic, and a range of sizes. These include cars, adapted people carriers and larger minibuses.

You’ll have an eye for what makes a comfortable journey for someone who is visually impaired, which will also include providing sighted guidance into and out of vehicles and during rest stops.

You’ll need a basic understanding of vehicle maintenance and will carry out your own checks on your vehicles. You’ll also need to be comfortable using various tools for planning and managing your routes.

This is a full time role of 37.5 hours per week covering 5 days out of 7. There may be an occasional need for an overnight stay when collecting members.

We offer:

  • Salary of £27,000 per annum
  • Generous annual leave with the option to buy additional days
  • Pension scheme with generous employer contributions
  • Healthcare cash plan
  • Access to legal services and mental health support
  • Employee assistance programme
  • Paid professional subscriptions and discounts
  • Home working allowance
  • Professional and personal development
  • Enhanced pay

Blind Veterans UK helps vision-impaired ex-service people of every generation rebuild their lives after sight loss. We help blind ex-service people lead independent and fulfilling lives by supporting them with our in-depth expertise, experience and full range of services.

This position is subject to Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Checks.

We are only able to accept applications from candidates who are located in and eligible to work within the UK. We are unable to provide any type of Visa sponsorship.

We embrace diversity and welcome applicants from people with a disability and from all backgrounds and cultures.

The current closing date is 11 October, however we may close the role early if we successfully appoint a candidate, so please don’t delay in submitting your application.

So, if you’d like to join us as a Driver, please apply .
