Established in 2018 Humphrey & Bo is a luxury Hotel & Country Club for Dogs in the heart of the Dorset countryside. In our second year, we were awarded a 5-star Animal Welfare Licence to provide boarding for 19 dogs and daycare for 15 dogs. We pride ourselves in offering exemplary professional service with a wide range of activities to suit every dog’s needs with a focus mainly on home from home dog boarding, daycare & agility. Humphrey & Bo is also the sister company to Pets in the City which is based in London.
Job description
Due to the continued growth and expansion of our services we are looking for a well-presented individual to become part of our friendly and supportive team. The successful candidate will need previous dog handling skills preferably in a professional capacity and be confident in dealing with customers face to face.
You will help in the supervision, management, training, safety, and care of our dogs, looking after many different breeds, sizes, age, and characters, taking them on walks around our 11 acres of fully fenced fields and organising individual exercise programmes to suit each individual dog.
You will support our manager in answering phones, taking bookings, and organising our day to day working schedule.
You will be required to transport dogs to London as part of our pet taxi service at least once a week.
You will help with the maintenance indoors and outdoors, such as general maintenance of the fields, gardens, hedges, and grounds of the property to include strimming, mowing, gardening, hedge trimming, fence mending, general DIY in the house and grounds, plant/tree care and maintenance
As we offer home from home boarding, the role will require an overnight stay twice a week to give our manager some time off and occasional staff holiday cover (this will be agreed in advance). You will be provided with your own bedroom in our beautiful Grade 11 listed farmhouse and will be expected to provide our guest dogs with their supper and lots of cuddles before bedtime.

Hours of Work
- 2 x days/nights (i.e. 2 x 24 hours) which includes a 10-hour sleep-in shift.
This arrangement must include at least 2 weekends per month.
- 1 x days consisting of 9 hours a day between the hours of 8 am – 6 pm (there may
need to be some flexibility in the hours) per week or
- A total of 3 days, 2 nights per week
· You are entitled to lunch and tea breaks to be agreed with your Manager.
Skills & Experience
- Hold a full clean UK driving license (at least 5 years) with experience of driving in and around large cities as you will be required to transport dogs to London as part of our pet taxi service.
- Qualifications in Animal Welfare or at least 2 years of experience working with dogs in a professional capacity.
- Animal First Aid preferable.
- Excellent knowledge of dog breeds/characteristics and temperament.
- Good interpersonal and oral communication skills
- Prepared to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Flexible with a can-do attitude
- Capable of taking good photographs for posting on social media.
