Job description
We are looking for an enthusiastic and versatile person to help us shape the future of Cambridgeshire Libraries. We maintain a high quality public library service, working in partnership with a range of other organizations and community groups.
Our District Library Assistants will lead the front-line library team in the day to day running of the library service. They will report to the library manager and deputise in their absence.
This role is based at Ely Library, however you will need to travel to other libraries within the East Cambridgeshire district. The role involves lone-working in the branch libraries, and supporting lone-working colleagues remotely.
We want to recognise and celebrate the diversity of our local communities and be responsive to their needs. We also want to ensure that we are a fair and equitable employer, striving to achieve a diverse workforce that has the ability to understand, communicate and interact with people across cultures. We therefore encourage applications from all areas of our community.
Interviews will be held at Ely Library on Monday 16th October.
If you would like any further information about this vacancy, please contact the library manager via [email protected].
What will you be doing?

- Promoting the library offer.
- Line-managing staff.
- Contributing to outreach and partnership working within the community.
- Working on Microsoft Teams with colleagues across the County.
Please refer to the attached job description for further details about the role. Documents can be found at the bottom of the page.
About youThe successful candidate will have a flair for working with people, and be able to create a friendly and welcoming environment for a diverse range of customers. They will be excellent at multi-tasking, be quick and efficient, and enjoy working in a busy environment. They will be able to lead and motivate colleagues and be a strong team player.
The candidate will be passionate about what public libraries can offer, and able to promote our services. Although there is plenty of routine work, there is also scope to be creative.
